16 week midwife appointment

It's my 16 week midwife appointment tomorrow I'm a little nervous 😬
Does anyone know if you get to hear the baby's heart beat?
My friend says she's having phone calls with her midwife rather than face to face appointments.
She's only a week behind me.. so I don't understand why.
Is anyone else in the same position?

I got to hear the baby’s heartbeat but I had asked before the appointment whether I would have an opportunity to do so, so I’m not entirely sure whether it’s standard.

The midwife did say both before and during my appointment it may take ages for her to find the heartbeat as they were still so small.

It was lovely to hear and my midwife also seemed ok for me to record it as unfortunately my other half had to work.

In terms of phone vs. face to face, from reading these forums, it seems to vary from area to area. All of mine have been in person so far apart from the details around the booking appointment

I had my 16 week appointment last Wednesday & got to hear the heartbeat. The midwife said she didn't think she'd find it straight away as I was actually 15+4 but it didn't take long.

I had my booking appointment over the phone then an appointment around 8 weeks for bloods face to face.

I heard the heartbeat at 16 weeks, but I know lots of trusts are now waiting till much later in pregnancy as it can be hard to find at 16 weeks. It also seems to be very trust dependant whether you get face to face or phone appointments. I’ve had all face to face, but from what i’ve heard from others I’ve been pretty lucky with that.

In our hospital no one gets to hear the heart beat at 16 weeks, it's not a routine thing at all hospitals 😃

Didn’t even get asked if I wanted to hear baby’s heartbeat at my 16 week midwife app ☹️ Have an appointment tomorrow with the midwife at nearly 25 weeks hope I get to hear his heartbeat as although have seen it beating perfectly on both my scans I am still yet to hear it

Thefaceofboe · 07/06/2021 21:05

I didn’t hear the heartbeat at my 16 week appointment, but I didn’t ask. Mine was just a casual chat, lasted about 15 minutes but couldn’t be done over the phone as I needed my thyroid blood test done.

Taenia · 07/06/2021 21:05

I had to call to rearrange by 16 week appointment as baby was two weeks behind on 12 week scan and midwife had said that as they listen to the heart at 16 weeks she wouldn't wouldn't able to do that at 14 weeks so had preferred to reschedule.

My booking appointment was over the phone, but this one's face to face and she said all of them would be from now I guess it depends on the trust. :)

I didnt get to hear babys heartbeat till 22 week midwife appt, 16 week appt was just bloods and flu&whooping cough jag ect

Chelyanne · 07/06/2021 21:48

I had face to face at 16+6wk as I'm consultant led. They only did blood pressure, urine dip and a chat.
They listened to babys heartbeat ith a doppler for the 1st time at 27+6wk.

Hey guys so we went for our 16 week midwife appointment and it was absolutely amazing we heart amour baby's heartbeat.
The midwife was so lovely.
On the other hand I asked if she could tell the sex by the rhythm of the heartbeat and she said by the old wife's tale she was guessing a boy.
Has anyone else heard this and has it come true 😊
So exited to find out
Experiences girls 😘

Yeah mine was 142 and a boy so don’t think it’s that accurate 🙈 you could go for an early scan to find out? I found out at 16 weeks

jadel16 · 08/06/2021 20:09

Ye we are going to go for an early one but we're away next week. So we're gonna dining when we're Back. 🥰 so many old wife tales.
I tried looking for the nub but my baby doesn't seem to have one 🤣🤦🏽‍♀️

@jadel16 this is what I thought but I sent it to the nub whisperer website (thinking it wouldn’t be accurate at all - more because I was bored of waiting 😂) and she said boy and said me a picture back showing how she could tell. Turned out to be right and another two people I saw on here who sent theirs were also right (one boy and one girl). Take it with a pinch of salt but it might be worth doing just for the fun of it

jadel16 · 08/06/2021 20:42

@sarah13xx
I'm nervous if I'm honest. I am going with a boy thou as I've had that instinct fr ok m day dot 🤣 you want a guess if I pop it on xx

sarahc336 · 08/06/2021 22:43

The heart rate thing isn't accurate, both of mine should have been boys going by their heart rates but they both popped out girls 😂😂
