Hi there,

I’m 26 weeks pregnant with my first and for a while now I have had no (or little) interest in food I used to love! Things like meat and chocolate for example. My sister said her taste never went back to normal after pregnancy but I’m unsure if she’s being dramatic or not. What was your experience?!

Yes, pasta was like cardboard while pregnant and I couldn't face it.

I can eat and enjoy it now.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 05/06/2021 17:29

Mostly my tastes went back to normal, but with dc8 I couldn't stand meat, and still can't eat mince now (dc is 17 months now)

Midnightstar76 · 05/06/2021 17:35

Yes could not stand lasagne, tasted totally different but have no problems at all now and taste has definitely returned

User27392 · 05/06/2021 17:36

I absolutely couldn’t bear garlic or coffee while I was pregnant, totally back to normal now.

EyeDrops · 05/06/2021 17:36

Mine went back to normal after a few weeks. The biggest changes I noticed were in drinks - I couldn't bear anything even slightly sweet, and drank everything watered down with sparkling water. Also the sugar in my tea (outing as I've told loads of people this!) - I don't usually have any, but one day like a light switch it just tasted wrong without two sugars. So I drank tea with two sugars for the rest of my pregnancy until a few weeks after birth, again just like a switch had flipped one day - all of a sudden the sugar was totally wrong and I've drunk it without again ever since.

I had a huge meat aversion. Now mostly ok except a bit iffy with rare meal and things like salami sometimes - I think hormone related.

Otherwise stuff like coffee went back to normal.

Thanks everyone you have given me hope!

I have always hated baked beans with a fiery passion. Before I knew I was pregnant I went to a cafe with DH for a fry up and, rather than expressly asking them to swap my beans for hash browns, I asked for both. DH was agog. I literally couldn't get enough of them. Ate them every day. Just loved them during both pregnancies.

Two days after I gave birth the first time around DH asked me if I wanted beans on toast as a snack after breast feeding. Apparently my face was as if he'd asked me if I wanted turd on toast. Can't stand them again now.

I haven’t had a cup of tea for forty years! Went off it when I was pregnant with my first, never had it since.

delilahbucket · 05/06/2021 18:12

Couldn't stand coffee, but on the other hand I couldn't get enough of chilli, milk and dandelion and burdock, all of which I didn't normally like and returned to normality immediately afterwards!

HeidiHighLow · 05/06/2021 18:15

I went back to normal quite quickly.
I could not stand tea when I was expecting the thought of it made me gag was ok after.
Went off anything tomatoey or with onions in but was fine after

user7891011 · 05/06/2021 19:36

I can only eat pasta with cheese and butter or pasta with cheese sauce right now 😂😭 or toast or chocolate, it's not morning sickness or anything I just can't stand the taste of anything else

Pinkblueberry · 05/06/2021 19:38

It’s all gone back to normal really. Except I used to be more of a ‘starter’ than ‘desert’ person. I had quite a sweet tooth in pregnancy and now I still always look at the desert menu when before I was never interested.

Hufflepuffsunite · 05/06/2021 19:39

Yes. I am a reluctant vegetarian when pregnant. Fine with meat when not!

irresistibleoverwhelm · 05/06/2021 19:41

Interestingly I eat a wider range of things after pregnancy than before. Leaving aside the short-term pregnancy cravings (and suddenly craving loads of sugar and carbs when breastfeeding), there were lots of things I previously really didn’t like - avocado, cauliflower, mushroom - which I now eat happily and enjoy. No idea why!

8dpwoah · 05/06/2021 19:41

Yep, horrendously fussy when pregnant, back to normal after a few weeks. Interestingly been less fussy this time round, it wore off after the first trimester. No indigestion yet either which I'm enjoying every single day of in case it doesn't last!

BalconiWaferAddict · 05/06/2021 19:46

Yes - I went off orange food and insisted on milky tea - which I usually hated. Thankfully I can now eat carrots etc again and have gone back to tea my normal way.

Still can’t shake the Whopper cravings though, 18months on 😳

Sleepyquest · 05/06/2021 19:49

Yep! Couldn't bear a Chinese for 9 months, the smell made me wanna vom and went back to having it twice a month after 🤣 same with tea!! Had a tea 20 mins after dd was born and resumed my tea addiction

waltzingparrot · 05/06/2021 19:52

Doubt you'll like my experience. Obviously gave up drinking for pregnancy but haven't been able to drink since, and that was over 15 years ago. Alcohol makes me feel really ill (I do try the odd glass just incase things have gone back to normal). I'm not that bothered because it tastes awful anyway.

eurochick · 05/06/2021 20:04

All meat tasted off to me when I was pregnant. I've never been a huge meat eater but it stopped tasting off once I was no longer pg.

I remember having a work dinner at a high end London steak restaurant in the early weeks when I hadn't told work. One colleague knew and helped herself to some of my dinner when people weren't looking.

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 05/06/2021 20:15

While pregnant with DD I couldn't stand strawberries, but after I'd had her I went right back to eating them like they were going out of fashion! Currently pregnant again (early days) and can't hack anything even mildly spicy (I love curries normally 😭) So yes your tastes so change, but mine changed right back.

Hsjdb7483939 · 05/06/2021 20:16

Mine went back to normal after which was a shame in some ways as there were a couple of things (certain brand pizza amd cake) that tasted amazing to me while pregnant but now I have to say taste quite average

Minstrelsgetinmybelly · 05/06/2021 20:19

It all went back to normal but somethings I was sick with still make me feel sick now and I can’t eat them anymore, asda create your own pizza 🤮🤮

Clangerschick · 05/06/2021 20:23

Sorry OP but I stopped caffeine whilst pregnant with my first and can now not drink caffeinated tea/coffee without it tasting like metal and getting a massive headache. Also had to go dairy free whilst pregnant and then breastfeeding my third and now cows milk tastes like cheese. Can’t stand it. I have to have oat milk in my decaffinated coffee !

IggyAce · 05/06/2021 20:27

When pregnant with dc1 I couldn’t eat broccoli, it tasted like metal. Taste returned to normal after.
