Flu- what do I do?

Hiya,

I’ve got the flu, high temp, aches the whole 9 yards. I’ve just looked on nhs website and it says it’s linked to low birth weight and my previous baby was low birth weight so I’m terrified that this will happen again.

The symptoms have just come on today and the nhs website says your GP can prescribe meds to lessen the complications but my GP is refusing. What should I do?

Is it just the catching of the flu that can cause low birth weight or is it the complications like landing in hospital etc?

@CandyLeBonBon no worries, thanks for letting me know about your birth weights.

I do think I’ve probably just got a virus as I took a rapid response test before I had symptoms because my LG had a temp, and it was negative and she and hubby have had negative pcr covid tests too xx

Hi OP, I'm so glad you have an appointment soon, you have endured a lot of trauma with your first baby and the awful comments you describe. I get that perhaps the awful behaviour of your mother maybe be partly cultural, as with your DH, but it doesn't make it okay. You deserve so much better. I'm impressed you have the strength to refer yourself to MH services and I really hope they serve you well.
Do you have any good friends or relatives that are less harsh? You need a support network. If there isn't anyone in RL, try looking for specific forums on FB - there are so many people that have been through worrying Situations with their babies / PND who are happy to share their experiences and help you feel less alone. Often, these groups have lots of people who are further along the line than you so can bring comfort in the knowledge that these difficult periods do pass.
Take good care of yourself OP, all the best.
