Ftm induction fears

I'm 41+2 I've had two sweeps with little joy, on my last exam I was 1-2cm dilated and cervix was still slightly posterior, mw said bishop score of 6, I was booked in for induction on the 2nd and I'm just hoping someone who was in a similar situation can tell me how their induction went or anyone who was induced could tell me what happened, I'm a little fearful of it and I think it's because idont really know much about how they work, how long it takes? I'm moving home on the 6th so 100% expecting everything to happen then lol, TIA

@Chara6

I'm glad you had a positive experience, I've woken up this morning with some cramping and back ache that's coming and going so I'm hoping that I might not need the induction though I'm trying not to get ahead of myself lol
@Chara6 fingers crossed for you 🤞🏼🤞🏼 Get on that birthing ball 🤣
Chara6 · 31/05/2021 18:00

I have 😂 I had a sleep and when I woke up it seemed like things had stopped and I was a little gutted but I got on the birthing ball and things seem to have started cramping again so fingers crossed little one is trying to break out 😂

Yay! Good luck!

Don’t be scared the midwives and team will look after you. Mine were fantastic every step of the way because I too was petrified about what was going on..
In the end I just went with it.. it’s really important to put your trust in them and your birth partner and you do what you need to do.
I won’t sugar coat it.. I found it painful and the onset of contractions once the drip was attached was almost instant. Make sure you accept pain relief but they will know when to give it to you. You can also ask for an epidural straight away if you want to.
I didn’t have to wait around for pessaries either I just went straight down to the labour ward and they broke my waters and got it going. I was slightly dilated.
Mine and a lot of others end in a c section and that was the best part. I was so relieved.
You can do this you’re a strong mama and the people around you for support will help get you through. The end result is amazing.

Peachee · 31/05/2021 22:18

Just seen your update! Let us know how you get on! Yayy xxxxxx good luck xxxxxx

Chara6 · 31/05/2021 22:21

@Peachee I'm lucky in the sense I gave 100% trust in my birthing partner I know he will help me as much as he can, I'm pretty open minded on pain relief, I'm happy to start off on just gas and air but I'm happy to ask for an epidural if it becomes too much, thanks for your response!

If you have the pessary, the aim is to favour your cervix to have your waters broken. The aim is not to put you in to labour, some people get contractions or do go into labour but the aim is to favour your cervix, so shortening, softening, dilating, moving from back to front. Once that has happened (may take two rounds of 24hrs) moving on to waters breaking, giving you some time to get things going, if not in labour after this then to start the drip.
There are other methods such as Dilapan and balloon which mechanically dilate your cervix to break your waters.

Inductions can be lengthy, but everyone’s experiences are different. If you do need an induction, ask for some syringes to do some hand expressing during the process to get producing oxytocin

@3JsMa thank you! I'm doing ok..ish lol it getting really painful even with the paracetamol and pains are pretty close together some even 2 minutes apart but still no pattern so midwives have advised I stay at home untill the times between are more regular, I'm hoping not much longer because it's getting to the point its bringing tears to my eyes lol

Chara6 · 02/06/2021 20:14

@KM38 @THATbasicSNOWFLAKE I stayed home until my waters broke spontaneously, I hadn't dilated anymore since my last exam by time I got here so they planned to pop me on the drip overnight but as she went to sort it out they found I had dilated to 6cm in the couple hours we were waiting, I had an epidural as the pain had gone on since 8pm on he 31st and a couple hours later out came my sweetheart little boy!
