I had been planning a home birth for baby 2 due in July but unfortunately I have GBS and midwife has advised that I go into the labour ward for antibiotics as I can’t have antibiotics at home.
I had GBS with my first pregnancy and went into labour ward but back then my home birth midwife came onto the ward with me and stayed with me throughout labour. I felt really supported at having someone familiar with me.
This time round, the home birth team can’t come to the ward with me because they are understaffed. I feel really worried about this as the midwife on the ward will be someone I’ve never met before and it’s making me anxious.
I’m tempted to do another GBS swab to see if I still have it to try and decide if I can still have a home birth. I would ideally like a midwife with me the whole time but I know from other friends who had babies at this hospital who weren’t with the home birth team that they just get left on their own and have had partners chasing midwives when they feel like things have gone wrong. I really don’t want to be in this scenario.
I just don’t know what to do. Has anyone had GBS but still had a home birth?
If you weren’t with the home birth team and were on the labour ward, did you have a midwife with you the whole time?
Would be grateful for any tips.
