Wine and early pregnancy

Hi, just found out today that I’m pregnant, 4 weeks. Been trying for a few month, but the last 2 month have been difficult etc with going back to work after being furloughed. I have drank a hell of a lot that I normally would. I had 2 bottles of wine last night alone! I’m so worried that I’ve harmed this pregnancy in some way.

Has anyone been in this situation where they’ve drank while being pregnant this early on. Obviously it’s stopping now, I’m just so worried after reading things online, any kind of replies would be welcome. Thank you x

Worked at an ad agency and Xmas client party time was HEAVY, I thought DD1 was a tequila hangover at the time.

I’d had a miscarriage before her so was terrified as I’d basically spent 2 weeks of early pregnancy totally hammered but she’s 11 and asleep upstairs now. Congratulations x

Aww that’s so reassuring, honestly I’m besides myself. I totally stopped drinking while TTC but the last few months have been hell and a few glasses on wine now and then were helping! (In a sense)

Thank you so much x

Okay, I would generally recommend being alcohol free during pregnancy BUT this early on baby does not share your blood supply yet. This means alcohol will not pass to baby or harm them in terms of their development.

This doesnt mean its a good idea to drink early in pregnancy. Alcohol when TTC decreases chance of conception and implantation. But in OPs case, embryo seems to have implanted just fine.

Lots of people accidentally consume alcohol early in pregnancy. Wishing you all the best for the rest of your pregnancy @Nalagrey x

Thank you so much. Never even thought about TTC the past 2 months, everything has just been so full on. In my mind, I must’ve have thought I still had the implant in. I feel so stupid x

Don’t feel stupid, feel happy and excited about your pregnancy, it’s really not a big deal, you’ve stopped now and hey, women used to get told to drink Guiness for iron in my mums day!

I went to a wedding in central London with a free bar the weekend before I got my BFP, we walked back to the hotel swigging a bottle of champagne. Try not to worry!

I flew for work in the week before I got my positive test, and because work was paying, it was the first time I’d ever flown business class. They had unlimited free alcohol in the lounge and onboard. My flight was at 10am, it was 8 hours along and I got to the airport early to take full advantage of all that was on offer in the lounge 😂 so about 11 hours of drinking champagne.

I was terrified when I got my BFP that I’d harmed the baby and I really tortured myself with online reading like you have. I mentioned it to the midwife at my booking appointment and she laughed and said ‘don’t worry, if I had a pound for every time a patient had told me that I’d be off on a desert island somewhere!’

And that BFP is now a lovely healthy happy two year old. Smile
