Any tips? I'm 32 wks pregnant and the heartburn is killing me. So painful, keeping me awake half the night, I could remortgage with the amount I've spent on Gaviscon. I would love any tried and tested ways to keep it at bay and any foods I should be avoiding. Thanks in advance, hiccup.

I had this! So bad. Yoghurt was my friend. Full fat creamy yoghurt. I also drank milk but had to put nesquik in it Grin
For a while I was fine but don't drink anything fizzy including fizzy water and maybe best to give curry a miss too. I loved my carbs when I was pregnant but also found eating lots - eg pizza - made it worse. Some people say tomatoes are very bad for it.
I didn't want to take medication but you can get omiprazole prescribed. By the end I was hardly sleeping and I had to sleep in a separate room from about 16 weeks. Hang in there, almost there! It disappeared the instant my son was delivered x

Omeprazole

Mumoftwo2021 · 23/05/2021 00:25

I’m 29 weeks and nothing touched my constant heartburn! It was making me so unhappy.
My doctor prescribed omiprazole yesterday and this is my first day of taking just one tablet in the morning, I cannot believe the difference!!! I wish I had got it sooner it’s transformed my everyday life!! Even had a spicy lunch today and still no burn, I’d really recommend it xXx

Ooh thank you. I have my next midwife appointment on wed so I'll ask then about omeprazole. We're on holiday in Devon at the moment and I've had fried seafood a couple of times and also a spicy Thai takeaway which affected it a lot. I've been eating lots of tomatoes and grapes so will perhaps try to curb those but I'm not prepared to quit carbs - that's a step too far 😂

Try Gaviscon liquid rather than tablets. Failing that, omeptazole. They say dairy (and fatty foods) makes it works as your body produces more acid to break down the fats in the dairy but I found milkshakes, ice cream etc to help.
Also, lie on your left hand side in bed. Gets gravity and your anatomy working in your favour.

Yep I second omeprazole it’s a game changer. Speak to a pharmacist whilst you are on holiday I think you can but it over the counter.

Buy not but!

Omeprazole, honestly GOD SEND. Your doctor can prescribe it. I suffered throughout my whole pregnancy, like you I spent hundreds on gaviscon. Finally at 36 weeks I was desperate and rang the doctor and he prescribed me omeprazole and omg worked wonders, so annoyed at myself I didnt ring doctor sooner.

Another vote for omeprazole. I was at the point I was vomiting acid daily and then took one omeprazole and all symptoms gone within hours.

BurningBenches · 23/05/2021 09:00

Also omeprazole. Like @LunaDreams I vomited every single day of my 3rd pregnancy due to the acid.

Read on here about it with my 4th and it's a total game changer.
