Hi- I've been getting multiple cramps and spasms in my legs and toes recently and wondered if it could be preggo related?

Anyone had this?

Ye I have it in my calves quite regularly when I'm sleeping. Can't remember why but it's certainly pregnancy related as I had it with my first too.

Are you quite active/standing a lot? I think that's a factor combined with the extra weight

PrimeraVez · 19/05/2021 07:31

Yes, it's quite common (I've had it with all three pregnancies, always in the middle of the night, making me leap shrieking out of bed)

Each time my OB has recommended a magnesium supplement (in addition to whatever is already in your prenatal vitamins) and this always works for me. I just buy sachets which dissolve in a small glass of water.

@PrimeraVez yes! It has me jumping out of bed too! My DH shits his pants every time thinking I am going into labour 😂 I say I leap out of bed... I cant leap but I get up as quickly as possible screeching 😂

@Amichelle84 I always found standing up and standing on a cold flat surface helped.

Thanks all, last night was a killer. I'll add magnesium to the collection.

I've been getting this in the middle of the night to. My midwife suggested eating a banana late afternoon. A friend suggested the peppermint foot/leg spray and lotion from Body Shop which I've ordered but they haven't arrived yet so can't say whether or not they help yet.

I used to get this all the time (pre-preg too) but found a complete cure. Just stretch each calf muscle before bed like in the picture. I only do one stretch on each leg, it takes about five seconds for each. Never once had leg cramp since doing this.
I guess the toes would be the same? Pull them up towards the top of your foot?
I hope it works for you as well as it did for me!

as others have said magnesium is good for cramp. Also try drinking tonic water. it contains quinine which is good for cramp! the flavoured ones are good if you don't like regular tonic water

Thanks so much everyone, will try stretching too.
