Racing heart at 26 weeks pregnant

Hi, not sure if this is a normal pregnancy symptom or not and just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced something similar. (I've asked friends but none have had this.)

For the past 5/6 nights I've had a racing/thumping heart in the evenings. It's distracting and annoying (especially when I'm trying to sleep) but not otherwise distressing. Is this just a consequence of increased blood volume, heart working harder etc? Or should I give my midwife a call?

I’d give your midwife a ring just to check

I've had the same and mentioned it to midwife today and she could not have been less interested. I have a consultant app in 2 days so I'll ask the consultant but from Google it does seem like it could be normal and just due to increased blood flow! Definitely mention it to midwife just to be on the safe side. It's so annoying when you're trying to sleep though isn't it! Sometimes I feel like I can hear my heart it's pounding that much 😂

I had this in pregnancy too, I mentioned it to my midwife and consultant and they both said it can happen in pregnancy. Do mention it though and make sure to keep asking about it if you are worried. They will likely look at all your other observations and if everything else is okay they might not be concerned but best to check.

I'm 21 +3 and had exactly the same thing over the last few days. Plan to ring my midwife tomorrow just to check but Dr google 🙈 says it's quite common

Thanks for the replies, everyone. You're right – it is such an annoying feeling! I've been having 1–2 cups of weak tea a day but I completely cut that out a couple of days ago and my heart's been a bit better at night (though I can still feel it). If it's still bad tonight I'll call my midwife tomorrow.

I had this a few times as well, always when I lay down in bed. I had occasional heart burn around the same time so I took an indigestion tablet just out of interest and it stopped quite quickly. Might have just been coincidence!

Oh, interesting, @ClimbAHill – I've had heartburn for the past week or so as well. I wonder if it's connected...
