Hello, this is my first time posting so hoping I’m doing it right!
I want to know if anyone else has been in the same situation maybe? I’m half way through my second trimester and I was put on cephalexin for 5 days so I finished my dose 2 weeks today.
But I’ve been put on amoxycillin now for a week for a different problem, I’ve spoken to my midwife about this and she said it’s totally fine it won’t hurt my baby by being on two different antibiotics in just 2 weeks and for two different infections.
Has anyone been on different antibiotics through their pregnancy? Was your baby okay?
TIA everyone. :)

Forgot to add also that the amoxycillin would be my 5th lot of antibiotics this pregnancy, due to UTIS mainly, I just feel like I’ve been on so much antibiotics this pregnancy would it have any effect? Thanks again.

Yes was on both of those with DC3 - recurrent UTI's. She's perfect!

Don’t worry op lots of women have difference courses of them preg!
Docs wouldn’t give you them if they were to cause any harm to your baby.

kickingandscreaminggg · 17/05/2021 15:10

Thanks both.
I’m anxious about taking so many medications during pregnancy, I haven’t so much as taken a paracetamol so worried about taking 5 lots of antibiotics in my pregnancy.
I know they wouldn’t give anything that would harm my baby at all, I’m just scared of taking them so close together and for different infections too, I’m sure my UTI hasn’t cleared up from 2 weeks ago but the amoxycillin is for something else.
Sorry as you can tell this is my first pregnancy and the pregnancy anxiety has hit me well and truly haha.

Don't worry OP, they'll only harm the bacteria that are making you poorly 🙂 amoxycillin can be good for UTIS too could be doing two jobs for you.

I had to have loads of IV antibiotics during labour and afterwards to stop us both from potentially dying, they are wonderful things that prevent potential substantial harm. You're right in that you wouldn't be prescribed anything that would be harmful and they would look at the previous too, if you want to be really cold about it it's more than someone's career is worth to get something straightforward like that wrong.

Hope you start to feel better soon!

Oh I understand the worry op. A doctor at the hospital prescribed my 4th lot and she was really reassuring that there was nothing to worry about.

MyBabyBoyBlue · 17/05/2021 17:28

I've had two diff types too during my pregnancy - GP assured me it was absolutely fine, both pregnancy safe and, anyway, the infection would be worse for the baby than antibiotics!

Accidentallydeletedoopsss · 17/05/2021 18:31

I had three types and all was fine!

georgarina · 21/05/2021 06:28

I've had two types so far also due to UTI - probiotics every day and preventative d-mannose has stopped them since then though!

I have been on antibiotics almost uninterrupted since the beginning of my pregnancy for repeated infections. Cephalexin made me so violently ill I've been given Trimethoprim, which is not recommended in the 1st trimester (but I'm now in the second).

Unfortunately in my case, I'm not remotely responsive to antibiotics (this problem predates my pregnancy) and even the IV ones given in hospital didn't curb the infection. So rather than take more trimethoprim for no benefit and a possible risk, I've tried the route of strict diet, lots of garlic (known as a last resort for people who are antibiotic resistant), ginger, and bucket loads of water.

I would not recommend this approach as it's very specific to my circumstances, but so far my symptoms have mildly improved since I've stopped the antibiotics - they were making me sick but the infection was just the same (over the course of months). If ever the symptoms worsen I will be back on the antibiotics, out of a sense of duty rather than because I feel they will help - but so far just hoping my infection stays the way it's been for months, a real pain but not spreading to the kidneys.

Hi Ladies. I know this is much later but did everything work out for you? I have two children, my middle one has long term side affects from antibiotics I took whilst breastfeeding her. So I am completely heartbroken to now find out I have a UTI and have to take cephalexin antibiotics, as I just finished amoxicillin 10 days ago for an ear infection. I only found out on Saturday that I’m pregnant. So it’s very early stages. I have done tonnes of research and found that antibiotics could pose risk to the developing baby. I did everything I could yesterday to flush it out but it didn’t work, so I started the AB’s today. The GP is saying they’re completely safe but they said the same thing whilst breastfeeding my other and the worst happened. I feel so sad and guilty, I don’t know what to do. This is my third pregnancy and feel like it’s started off on the worst note - I will be scared throughout the whole pregnancy now. Any advice will be so appreciated. Thank you

Hi @Iris2020 hope you and baby are well. I wanted to ask how everything turned out because I just finished 4th lot of antibiotics for same Uti and bacteria is still present. Seems like its extremely resistant or I am but wanted to know how your approach went. Thankss so much
