Not getting examined by doctor to confirm if I am pregnant or not

Hello,

I’m having a pandemic dilemma and am in need of advice.
It started with me having lower abdomen pain which I told the doctor about. He ordered bloods which included a pregnancy test and it came back negative. I took this as being confirmation that I was not pregnant, but the doctor did order for me to have a trans-vaginal scan to see if there were other problems.
Another month goes on and I am still having pain with a slightly swollen abdomen now, pain in my back and stabbing headaches. I had the scan 3 weeks ago but each time I call the doctor they haven’t received the results yet and the sonographer didn’t tell me anything.
With the waiting and continuation of discomfort, I took another pregnancy test and it again came back with a very faint line. I told the doctor this and he said it was impossible for me to be pregnant. This is also because I have had my period the last 3 months (the last time I did the deed was at the end of January). My last period that I just had was only 2 days long though and I have noticed my nipples have got a lot darker.
I sit here now with a very heavy, protruding abdomen with twinges in my belly button and my sides with back pain so I am wondering if I am pregnant?
It really could be that I’ve just gone crazy!! This pandemic has driven a lot of us crazy, but I really need to find out now. Can anyone recommend somewhere I can get physically checked as no one can see a GP at the moment? Is there an organisation or something I can call to ask?

The sonographer would have told you if you were pregnant. They wouldn't just say nothing and pop it in a letter to the GP.

I'd suggest ringing your GP with your new symptoms.

Hope you get sorted soon.

ThatFlamingCandle · 14/05/2021 23:47

Are you sure you saw a line? If you pregnant enough to have a big tummy and twinges etc. It would show up prominently on a test, surely

Also, did you get to see the screen or did the sonography not show you?

Looksabitbig · 14/05/2021 23:53

People can see a GP if it is deemed necessary. I think it probably is for you! You could pay for a private scan at a baby scanning place if you can afford that?

PegPeople · 14/05/2021 23:58

If you were pregnant the sonographer would have told you then and there so you could sort everything out and begin to be monitored by a midwife. They wouldn't just send that information in a letter a few weeks later.

Regardless of pregnancy I think this sounds like it needs to be checked out urgently - I don't know what's open right now because I've only been to A&E and on the phone to GP (they're still not open). Good luck OP x

Mudandrain · 15/05/2021 06:12

I agree. Get checked ASAP. These symptoms sound like something that should be checked.

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 15/05/2021 06:24

We do pregnancy tests standard in A&E, pop down with your symptoms or go buy a test and pop it in the chemist to do.

Thedot90 · 15/05/2021 06:29

GPs are seeing people. However the only exam a GP will do to see if you are pregnant is a pregnancy test. I would check another test - if positive let your GP know and they may send you to the pregnancy assessment unit for a repeat scan (which is quick) to see how far along you are. If it is negative then update your GP with your symptoms and they will make a new plan to investigate and see you if required.

MonsterMash2210 · 15/05/2021 06:33

I would try GP again, then try 111, if that fails go to A&E, and then finally pay for a private scan in that order.

Whatever is wrong/ happening it definitely sounds like it needs investigating.

I do agree with others that if you are pregnant then the sonographer would have/ should have told you.

Cactus38 · 15/05/2021 07:02

Thank you very much for all your responses. I did think the sonographer would have said something if she saw something as it would have been such big news and I would have had to have got my health monitored straight away.
I’ll call the GP again on Monday to see if I can be looked at, hopefully they will start to see people face to face soon. If not I’ll go to A & E as suggested.
I’ll keep you updated, thanks again

Wondered how you got on op? Hope you're OK.

romdowa · 18/05/2021 18:42

Did you not get to view the screen at the scan?

Cactus38 · 18/05/2021 20:38

Hello,

I called the doctor and now have been referred to a gynaecologist. Not sure how long that will take but at least I’ll get on the waiting list.

Still waiting for the trans vaginal scan results, they must have gone missing somewhere, so I’m going to look to get a private scan for peace of mind. I can’t stand just waiting for results anymore. I found a place that does them not too far from me so I’ll be booking an appointment with them in the morning. I know another chance of a scan with the NHS will be a long long wait again.
I’m still getting lower abdominal and back pain so I just need an answer if I’m pregnant or not, yes or no. I’ll keep you updated

Romdowa, she didn’t show me the screen. Just shouted out numbers to her assistant. I did ask if she could see anything at the end but she just said the results would be with my doctor in 5 days, she didn’t give anything away.

They are ordinarily crap for most purposes but in this case I would be buying a digital pregnancy test, maybe even with a weeks indicator on. Seeing it in black and white will surely help?

TenThousandSpoons0 · 19/05/2021 21:00

OP - if the pregnancy test that the doctor ordered for you was negative, that just means that you weren’t pregnant at that point in time. Same goes for scan - nothing would be seen on scan if negative hcg, often nothing seen until 5ish weeks. So if you now have a faint positive test (which you didn’t before I take it?) then it’s definitely possible you are now pregnant. I’d do another in a couple of days and if it’s getting darker then call the doctor back. Emergency department would just do the same dipstick test so it’s not worth going there just for a pregnancy confirmation (do go if you’re feeling really unwell obviously). Very annoying about the scan result not being through though. Have they checked for UTI?

8dpwoah · 19/05/2021 21:29

OP has said she hasn't done the deed since January so a new pregnancy would be quite the turnup!

Seafog · 19/05/2021 21:35

Hope you get it sorted soon!

Definately · 19/05/2021 22:32

I don't think you could be pregnant but you haven't gone crazy either. It could be you have a cyst growing on your ovary, an infected Fallopian tube, any number of things really. It could be the scan didn't show anything up in which case the gynaecologist will want to order further tests including possibly exploratory surgery. How upsetting for you that your results have gone missing Sad

TenThousandSpoons0 · 20/05/2021 00:49

@8dpwoah I managed to miss that part! Woops, ignore me..
