I have been given some iron tabalets from the GP (am 33 weeks pregnant). Havent been told exactly what my iron levels were or anything just got a message to pick up the prescription.

On Tuesday I was very sick and was visiting the toilet LOADS. My ante-natal group suggested it might be the tablets. I was fine with them yesterday and today have been a little sick but have consistently been needing the loo for a number 2 since Tuesday and when i do go it is green, bottle green - is this normal???

My MN antenatal group have suggested taking Spatone instead, which I am prob going to do, do I need to discuss this with MW / GP first???

anaemia just wipes you out.

you literally find it hard to function at all.

so really you have to do something about it.

Just another vote for flourodix- my midwife said if I could pay for it, much better than prescription iron tabs. Only noticed darker poos, nothing changed in 'regularity'.
Got anaemic after birth of DD ( well, had blood transfusion which is a great pick-me up!) took iron tabs then, and not nice combination- new baby, scared to poo and iron tabs.Uggghh! My husband liked me anaemic though- I didn't answer him back or tell him to do anything- he could tell instantly when I had the transfusion!
I;m taking flouridix now (2nd pregnancy) to hopefully get 'them' to agree to home birth this time around (one idea is I went anaemic in late pregnancy after last blood test, so losing normal amount of blood at birth may have tipped me over the edge).

Those ferrous oxide tablets are awful! Combined with very dodgy pelvic floor after labour......................not good! If there is ever a next time I will definately give spatone a try - thanks.
