24 weeks and baby is lying low - what does this mean and what are the risks?

Hi all - I'm 24 weeks pregnant and had a routine midwife appointment today. She did an external examination to feel the position of the baby and said that the baby is lying quite low. I asked if this is anything to worry about and she said no but that I'll probably feel less comfortable and will want to pee a lot.

But I'm worried - why is my baby lying low? Does this mean that I could go into early labour anytime soon? Are there any other risks to the baby?

I should have asked these questions to the MW - I don't know why I didn't..

Has anyone ever had this? Are there any risks? I'm so worried. Xxx

Just to add that my placenta is at the back and there is no worry that it is low lying, which is obviously a good thing. I'm just worried about the baby being so low.

Hi, if your midwife was concerned she would have said. All woman carry differently so I wouldn't worry if she's not😁

Just means baby is comfortable where they are. A 24 week old fetus still has plenty of room to turn and roll and change position so doesn't mean you'll definitely end up with a breech baby either.

The bladder pressure will become very apparent though but nevermind.

For solidarity, I'm almost 40 weeks and baby has been low the entire time and is now head down and very looooowww. Means my bladder capacity is absolutely pathetic (its so ridiculous this week!) but at least I'm not kicked in the ribs 😅

Hi OP,
I'm currently pregnant with DC3 and this baby has been low all the way through, nothing to worry about, and now I'm at 31 weeks, I have to say I've been keeping and feeling a lot more comfortable than with my previous two pregnancies at this stage.

@lamptastic I can very much relate to the bladder pressure! lol

Hello I am 22 weeks and I noticed I have been carrying very low too throughout this whole pregnancy! In fact it's the first thing people say when they see my bump 🤰🏻 I'm glad you asked this question as I have been googling if it's anything to worry about too and it keeps coming up that usually in second pregnancy the muscles are weaker but this is my first 🤔 if your midwife wasn't worried I wouldn't worry I might mention it on my next scan too but no one has had any worried so far on me carrying low either 👶 and yes I can totally relate to the bladder pressure! 😅 constant weeing it's so bad I actually have wet myself a little bit 😳🤭 and constant trips to the loo 🤭🤰🏻
