Strange question - are you able to squat with legs together in heavy pregnancy?

I've been watching a discussion on Meghan (formerly Markle) and people have been debating a theory that her bump wasn't real. I didn't believe this but people showed photos of her squatting down with ease, but with her legs close together - I think there are photos/videos ranging from 6 months to almost full term at public engagements. She is wearing heels and seems to squat up and down very easily. Are any ladies here in the final trimester and can tell me if what she did is possible? I haven't experienced a full pregnancy yet so I don't know and people are saying so many different things about it.

I'm 24wk now and can not squat down with my legs together. I do barbell squats in the gym and have had to widen my stance to accommodate bump for a few weeks now to hit depth. Had to widen it for deadlifts too.

Mummyof2Terrors · 27/04/2021 14:06

I can. 31 weeks.

8dpwoah · 27/04/2021 14:06

No chance. I could squat in flat shoes quite late on but I had to have my knees sticking out at very undignified angles to do so. Definitely only for when wearing trousers! And getting up wasn't elegant either. I only had a small bump!

ThisMammaCat · 27/04/2021 15:54

Okay I just had to try this lol, and turns out, to my absolute surprise, I can squat in this way. I'm 38 weeks with a BIG bump and a recently engaged head down baby. I am shocked!

Why would her bump not be real? Crikey I think people have too much time on their hands and come up with some wild stuff!

Thankyou OP because now I have more faith in my squatting ability than ever before, which is pretty nice Smile

Thanks guys - seems to be a variety of possibilities!

I couldn't.

BertieBotts · 28/04/2021 12:45

Probably totally depends on how used you are to doing squats, doesn't it?

Luckyelephant1 · 28/04/2021 12:59

I'm 29 weeks and can fairly easily.

Not the biggest fan of MM but jeez the poor girl just doesn't get a break does she (not aimed at you OP I mean the media generally). Imagine having a conspiracy theory made about you that you aren't pregnant purely from the way you arrange your legs. It's unbelievable.

Lou98 · 29/04/2021 22:24

I'll be 37 weeks in a couple of days and can still squat like this no problem at all.

Why would she go to the effort of faking a bump, the media have too much time on their hands!

KFleming · 29/04/2021 22:27

Yes, I could do that no problem when pregnant.
Plus, she’s known to do a fair amount of yoga isn’t she?

Numnumcookie · 29/04/2021 22:34

I could at full term and could touch the floor with my hands flat (always been bendy). Not fit at all and overweight as well so definitely possible. Didn't really get much of a bump though.

8dpwoah · 30/04/2021 08:06

I think I might sign up to pregnancy yoga this time as I'm clearly in the inflexible minority BlushGrin

NinaMimi · 30/04/2021 10:13

I’m 34 weeks with decent size bump and I can. I used to do yoga a lot. It’s really just bending straight over that’s uncomfortable for me.

It is ridiculous the way people go after her. I’m not a fan of hers or the royal family but come on. That’s just silly.

lljkk · 30/04/2021 10:23

I'd fall over with heels on - instantly, pregnant or not, but squatting fine.

MM is accused of having a fake bump? I wonder what kind of 'fake baby' she'll be accused of giving birth to.

Dollywilde · 30/04/2021 10:29

I could until bump dropped - I carried quite high. Was doing pregnancy yoga via Zoom right up until due date and I really only had to modify moves from about 2 weeks before she arrived. People are mad re MM - I’m not particularly a fan but the crap she gets thrown at her is shocking.

sazzt · 30/04/2021 11:24

I just tried this out of interest of what I can physically do - 23 weeks pregnant, I can squat medium depth knees together feet flat on floor, but raise my heels and I can go much lower. Clearly I am having a quiet day at work Grin
