Hi, today I found out I am expecting! Very shocked! I started experiencing pregnancy symptoms a week or so ago, felt sick daily, very emotional and so tired. I didn't think nothing of it but partner was adamant that I take a test as I was the same in my last pregnancy (he's only 8 months old now) anyways finally decided to take a test today and straight away the test line was there before the urine even travelled the whole way across. I then took a clear blue which said 3+. I have the kyleena coil in so I'm very confused and emotional right now. I've just gone to go check my strings and I can only literally just about feel the tip of my strings literally just popping out of the opening of my cervix. So is it travelling up? I'm really worried. I do have a scan tomorrow at 10.15 so hopefully I'll know more then. Just wondered if anyone else had any similar experiences. Thank you

I work with someone who got pregnant with a coil in place, except her coil disappeared. Baby was fine, but she never found where it went.

Hopefully you will be fine and get some answers soon.

My mum fell pregnant with my sister with an IUD. She had the IUD removed and my sister is now in her late 30s Smile

Crikey, how are you feeling about it all?

You need to call the doctors ASAP as they'll want to check location- you're at a higher risk for an ectopic.

Sorry, just reread and saw about the scan- ignore the latter bit.

My dd2 (dc3) is a Mirena baby. In my case the coil had slipped down, into my cervix. Like you, I only realised when I was having some horrid pregnancy symptoms. In my case the doctor could see the end of the coil so just whipped it out. I'd had it inserted because it was supposed to be more reliable than sterilisation, so it was really something to get my head around - dh too, as our dc were 3 (dd1) and 15 months (ds). I was almost 3 months when I found out.

It was a ghastly pregnancy (I'd been very ill with ds and we were never planning any more as I was told the kidney issues would get worse with each pregnancy) and was then worn out, on mighty painkillers, with 3 dc under 4 and a dh who worked really long hours as a GP. The next 2 years are a blur, I had bad pnd.

Well, that mirena baby is now 17, studying to be a beautician, and a real light in our lives. I'd go through it all again to have her, I've really accepted that she was just meant to be.

That's my story - I don't know your situation but I wanted to let you know that it can work out. Dh had a vasectomy when I was 6 months pregnant, they don't normally do this but given my illness they made an exception.

Wishing you all the best, however it works out for you.

Hi Kaylay how you feeling about this all? - stupid question really!! Jist thought I’d tell you about my sister she was in a similar situation- last year actually due to have coil removed and changed but covid came along and she couldn’t get appointment , cut a long story short she fell pregnant with it in, like you she had a scan and they checked the embryo wasn’t near the Coil then gave her the option of them removing it there and then or leaving it till baby was born - she chose remove and had a weeks bed rest at home .... she now has a gorgeous perfectly healthy 8month old boy .
I hope your situation is just as quick and you get the outcome you want
Sending luck x

I know of a few people it’s happened to, all with positive stories. But I guess you need to think how you feel about it

I'm 39 weeks with my mirena coil pregnancy. I called my GP and early pregnancy unit when I realised and was sent for a scan that day, I was already 9 weeks at that point. I've had several extra scans since and there's been no sign of the coil in any of them.
Other than hyperemesis gravidarum (the main symptom which made me test in the first place!) I've had a healthy pregnancy so far.
Mentally I struggled for the first few weeks after finding out, but I've come to terms with it and DH has been amazing, we're really excited to welcome DC3 any day now

Cherryblossom2021 · 26/04/2021 22:03

@ohidoliketobe I just tagged OP into your post on other thread thought it would ease her mind
Good luck with your little one 😊

I got pregnant less than a year after getting a copper coil. I only tested as I was due to donate blood, shocked by positive. GP couldn't see coil so was sent for a scan the next day. They did abdominal then asked me to empty bladder for an internal, said congratulations you're having twins!! (measuring over 7wk). No sign of the coil though so the pregnancy was fine and they were delivered at 38wk, they're 6 now.

Waitingforbabypage · 27/04/2021 02:38

My mum had an iud, I was born with it in my hand 😂🥰

Cherryblossom2021 · 27/04/2021 08:31

Awww @Chelyanne that’s lovely , dunno why it brought a tear to my eye but I’m emotional lately ♥️

AngstyMom · 27/04/2021 10:03

Bless you @Chelyanne, I'm glad everything worked out, but that'd be an absolute nightmare for me!

Also, people whose coils went missing, where did they go?! Do the doctors just shrug? Surely it has to go somewhere?

Chelyanne · 27/04/2021 11:13

@cherryblossom2021 haha, I adore our twinnies, they are incredible little girls.

@AngstyMom would be for most I think, they were our 4th and 5th. I do love having a big family though, so much so were expecting number 6 in Aug.
My mother had the same issue many years ago but didn't mention it until after I announced our pregnancy, unfortunately her coil pregnancy ended in miscarriage.
