Early pregnancy pains/cramps

I’m roughly 5 weeks pregnant and have been having on an off cramps and I’ve just put it down to the usual cramping that is common in early pregnancy, today however I was taking a shower and got an intense pain in my lower abdomen it felt like a period was about to come but a much worser feeling 😔 I could barely stand up straight and it was really uncomfortable to move, the pain lasted for around 10 minutes and only got better when I curled in a ball or layer down, I’m really worried! I know the worst thing to do is google your symptoms but I did and my absolute fear is that I’m having an ectopic pregnancy, I’ve not had any bleeding just the pains/cramps, I’ve not done much since my shower this afternoon I’ve been too worried to move just in case the pain comes back 😔 luckily I’ve been ok ever since and only had the odd mild twinge.
Has anyone ever experienced this or anything similar, or can offer any advice as to what to do, do I leave it and see if it happens again or should I contact my gp? This will be my 3rd pregnancy unfortunately they’ve all ended in a miscarriage around 6-8 weeks so I’m worried that I’ll have another 😔

Yes I had this at 5 weeks after about a week of very mild period pains. A sudden and very strong pain, mine only lasted about 4/5 mins but I'm now 6 weeks and feel fine, haven't had those lower abdomen pains for a good few days. Try not to worry!

Becka1990 · 26/04/2021 18:02

Hi 😊 firstly congratulations on your pregnancy 😁 and thank you for your message, I'm glad things are going well for you and no more pains, I've not had had anymore since this afternoon so fingers crossed things are ok and the pains don't come back 🤞🏻 it's such a scare when these things happen I'm praying for this pregnancy to go well, it's hard to stay positive after having multiple miscarriages i always fear the worst and it's a shame, I'm struggling to enjoy it 😔

I would call the gp or 111. I had similar last week (not sure how to link my post on the app) and a lovely GP commented on my post telling me to call 111 or my gp. My gp was concerned and had me in and it was ruled out it was ectopic (I wasn't sure if I was pregnant at that stage yet) and it's a cyst, but none the less, they immediately checked for pregnancy as they were concerned that the pain I was having (same as yours) was not normal.

I'd call 111 tonight. I don't want to worry you but I'd rather you were safe and well x

Becka1990 · 26/04/2021 20:07

Oh really 😔 yeah I will give them a call just to be on the safe side, are you pregnant then? I've heard about cysts, I called my gp 2 months ago because I was getting pains and I said I was worried because it doesn't feel right and she said if I had a cyst I'd know about it so I just left it at that but now I'm worrying, especially with the pains today, I've not had any since this afternoon I've been totally fine but knowing my luck I'll call 111 or my gp and they'll say it's noting to worry about unless I'm literally lying on the floor in pain 🙈😔

@Becka1990 I had really bad pains at 5-7 weeks, like you this is my 3rd pregnancy. Last 2 ended in a mc at 6 and 8 weeks. I'm now 18 weeks.

Have you phoned EPU to see if they will scan you early? I got a scan at 8 weeks but they might scan you earlier if your worried about an ectopic

Kindlethefourth · 26/04/2021 20:23

I had this OP, usually in the middle of the night a couple of times very early on-in fact I didn't know I was pregnant. Had an internal scan as they were concerned it was an ectopic pregnancy. It wasn't. She is 18 now. Wishing you all the best

Becka1990 · 26/04/2021 20:28

@Fourleafclover93 congratulations on your pregnancy 😊 I've not contacted anyone yet but I did consider calling the epu to then realise they close at 5pm 🙈 my partner called them when I had pains in my first pregnancy and they told him they couldn't see me with it been so early on I think I was 6 weeks at the time so no idea why they said that, I ended up going to A&E where I had the miscarriage 😔 and they kept me in over night, with the second miscarriage I knew it was coming so I didn't even bother contacting anyone and just dealt with it at home because I had a feeling the hospital wouldn't help unless I was bleeding to death, I've booked for a private scan which is in 13 days but I'm worrying that this pregnancy is going wrong already 😔 I think I will see how I am through the night because I've been fine since this afternoon and I will give the epu a call tomorrow just to see if they can check things.

@Becka1990 no, mine was a cyst - found out today after my scan. The GP had me in urgently as I had told him a faint bfp (turned out to be an indent) but it was confirmed I was not pregnant but before we found out his concern was it was an ectopic pregnancy. A cyst is very painful too, I have been doubled over in pain with it the last 2 weeks with the cyst.

I really hope you get checked out and it is nothing at all. Please update us xx

Becka1990 · 26/04/2021 20:58

@ReginaaPhalange oh I'm really sorry to hear that, I have heard they are very painful 😔 bless you, I hope you feel better soon! I will keep you all updated 👍🏻😊

Hello OP, did you get checked out?

Becka1990 · 04/05/2021 15:33

Hi 😊 just an update on things, the pains had all stopped, I called the EPAU and they couldn't fit me in for a scan straight away and said if the pains came back and I had any bleeding to get back in touch with them or go straight to A&E, I had my first appointment with the Midwife last Thursday where I explained everything and she managed to get me booked in for a scan today, the nurse that did my scan said that she couldn't see much which got me super worried! So I ended up having a Transvaginal Ultrasound and there it was 😁 a little tiny flickering dot 😁 haha, i know it's still early days and I'm still worried that things could go wrong but I'm just glad that it's in the right place and things are going ok 😊 fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong now xx

Hi @Becka1990 hope you don’t mind me messaging. I’m currently just turned 8 weeks and have excruciating abdominal cramps for the last two weeks to the point I feel like I could pass out and it wakes me in the night. I had an early scan like yourself this week so they could rule anything o and everything with the baby is fine! 😊 I just wondered when your cramps started to ease? Xxx

Becka1990 · 18/06/2021 16:22

Hi @1sttimemumn congratulations on your pregnancy 😊 my cramps seemed to just vanish after 10 minutes and I was really worried that it was going to happen again but luckily they didn't come back, I put mine down to doing too much that day, even now i can tell when I've put too much strain on my body I get light cramps and aches, have you done anything different recently like more exercise etc? If the pains are waking you up speak to your midwife or local epu and explain everything that's going on, I was going out my mind when I was having pain but apparently it's sometimes normal to experience cramping in early pregnancy, I'm now 13 weeks and all is going well, try to relax I know it's easier said than done but take it easy rest up and keep in touch with your midwife and epu, you might think your pestering them but honestly you know your body and if your worried ask them to check you over again I would, I'm sure everything will be fine, if you experience any bleeding with the cramps then go straight to epu or A&E but fingers crossed all is well and it's just your body adjusting to the pregnancy 💕

Hey! Thank you so much for coming back to me!! Thank you I’m so happy 😁

Oh that’s good how many weeks were you when they stopped all together? I’ve had them every day and night for the last two weeks it’s exhausting me! Bit TMI but think it might be partly digestive issues it’s causing me but I’ve honestly never felt pain and discomfort like it feel like I could pass out when it happens.

No I’m actually quite gutted as wanted to at least keep up some light exercise but I havnt even been able to go on walks in case it happens when I’m out so not doing anything extra at all in that sense.

I’ve said about it to the midwife and doctor and they just said they don’t see it lasting long but there’s not much they can do but to get in contact if this level of pain carry’s on. I’m hoping I get to 11/12 weeks and it miraculously disappears haha 😆

Luckily I have had zero bleeding at all and the baby was all in the right place etc on the scan so fingers crossed that will continue.

Thank you so much again for taking the time to come back to me!! Xxx

@Becka1990 hey, sorry to jump onto your post! I'm roughly 4-5 weeks pregnant and I've got like a full/hard /tense feeling in my uterus area, did you ever experience this? I don't seem to get a reply from anyone else and I'm worried!❤️
