Club foot in 20 week scan

We are told our baby girl had unilateral clubfeet. Can they tell by ultrasound whether it is positional or structural? What is the prognosis like? I read online even with treatment, they could releapse

The doctor said it looks more like stuctural rather than positional

Unilateral clubfoot is still managed using the Ponseti method. It’s weekly casts followed by a small operation on the Achilles tendon, and then an overnight boot to stop relapse until they’re school age. Unilateral is a little more complex, and can result in mobility issues as the leg may be shorter/foot smaller on the affected limb than the other. The difference is about 10% on average, so it’s noticeable more when you pay attention.

I’m sure a physician will be along soon to advise on the diagnosis over ultrasound.

I believe if it has been identified as early as the 20 week scan it is probably structural. My DD had positional and I was told it would have occurred during the third trimester as she ran out of space.

My brother was born with bilateral club foot, one side worse than the other. He was treated with ponseti method and a small op. He is now grown up and it doesn't cause him any issues whatsoever with his mobility - he runs long distances. Cosmetically his feet look a bit flat but lots of people have flat feet anyway.

My dd had bilateral... No op just the method mentioned. Looks a bit gruesome and is cumbersome but manageable! Will determine what pram/car seat you buy so don't get yours just yet! Ds is now 12...plays the best footie. Wears regular shoes.. You would never know and tbh he has no recollection of those tough 4 years except the tiny boots we kept and a few pics!
