Hi all, losing my mind!! I am roughly 5weeks (difficult to know as pregnant straight after MC) had an early scan today because of some very slight brown discharge a few days ago. Scan showed the gestational sac but no clear yolk sac. I know that 5w can be too early to see this, HOWEVER, my hcg levels were 4,500 5 days ago and have been doubling every 36 hours. If they have continued to double even every 3 days they must be around 15-20,000 by now. I’ve read online that a yolk sac should be visible with this level of hcg regardless of weeks pregnant. Please help, has anyone had high hcg with no yolk sac yet?xx

@MayDay27 you’re pretty much the exact same as me, exact same thing happened. My spotting was so light but cramps bad. I can’t believe I’m trying to convince you to stay positive when I was the exact same yesterday and still just so unsure but if it’s any consolation my sonographer didn’t say a thing about the HCG levels and what she’d expect to see on the scan, she just said you’re just too early on to see. We miscarried just before this (I didn’t have a period before we fell pregnant again) so mind in overdrive...I have to cling to that hope but next week feels like forever.

Both these groups have similar stories and success 🤞🏼🤞🏼 Ps my HCG was doubling every 1.4 days at first and they weren’t remotely concerned

@Mosshead348 it's lovely to be able to talk to you! Do you mind me asking you what happened with your past MC?

Mosshead348 · 22/04/2021 19:57

It really is nice to have someone in the same position @MayDay27. MC at roughly 4 weeks so very early, HCG never went above 100 and it just didn’t “take” they say...that was our first so similar situation to you in that it’s all new to us

I don’t know what my HCG levels were, but I had the same scan result as you at what we thought was 6 weeks. My invisible yolk sac is 4 now, and is currently demanding a 15th reading of the gruffalo before bed.

Mosshead348 · 22/04/2021 21:29

😂😂 thanks @HandforthParishCouncilClerk that’s exactly what I needed. Hope the Gruffalo worked for bedtime!!xx

@Mosshead348 sorry to hear about your first loss. I never knew how common it was for thee things to happen. Once I found out I was pregnant I was testing a lot worried that the hcg levels weren't rising enough, now I'm worried they are too high! I think they think based on my levels and the first day of my last period that I'm at least 6 weeks. I don't know how accurate they are but the ovulation tests always had a peak day 21 so I was estimating myself a week behind them at 5 weeks. My gestational sac size being 7mm says 5 weeks but then with the hcg levels at 14,000 that's way to high for 5 weeks! So confusing!!

If you do take another pregnancy test just be aware that when HCC gets too high the test can come up negative - it’s called the hook effect.

@MayDay27 how you doing today?xx

@Mosshead348 I'm doing ok, just hate the wait you? I'm just so confused at the moment, I had another look at my ovulation sticks I did and uploaded onto the app and it's definitely has the peak on the 31/03 so I was assuming I would then have ovulated on the 01/04. Based on that though I would only have been exactly 5 weeks on Thursday but then getting a reading of 14,000 at 5 weeks is looking exceptionally high! I looked up accuracy of ovulation strips and it says 97%. I'm just wondering for if this doesn't work out what to do for next time! I've written out a few questions for the doctors!

@Mosshead348 Any updates OP. In the same situation :( xx

MayDay27 · 16/04/2023 17:13

@user0786 I’m not the OP but was on this post with the same problem originally. Luckily for me it worked out, I now have a 16 month old and for some reason my hcg levels were just very high! I hope you have a similar outcome xx
