When to expect first period after ERPV

Yesterday, underwent an erpc following failed medical management of a MMC. The doctor said the next period usually comes between 4-6 weeks after ERP but it could be longer.

Does anyone have any experience they could share as wee want to start trying again and I’d like to get some blood work done when it starts.

Sorry for your loss.

Mine took 18 weeks to return, although I had misoprostol and then 2 Erpc a month apart, so a lot of trauma x

I had MVA so basically ERPC under local anaesthetic (also had two failed medical management), my period came back 5 weeks to the day.

Cycles are usually between 28-32 days ish and they went back to normal straight away, first one was normal too - no heavier than usual x

Conundrum12345 · 21/04/2021 19:49

Thanks. I had to take misoprostol 3 times in total so I'm not sure how that's impacted things. Had 29-31 day cycles prior to that

I had two lots of Misopostrol, then haemorrhaged with sac stuck in my cervix - ended up staying in hospital then thought as least it's all over... 5 weeks later RPOC (was still getting positive pregnancy tests) so had MVA - all in all was 3 months from no HB on scan to MVA. MVA was 11th September and period arrived 16th October.

Stopped trying for a few months because I was mentally all over the place, but now 14 weeks (caught first month back trying) and all going well so hopefully that is a positive story for you... :) x

Sorry for your loss. Mine came 43 days after my erpc.

WantingAnother · 22/04/2021 09:41

I’m really sorry for your loss.

Mine restarted 5+3 days after the procedure.

First miscarriage I got a period 5 weeks after erpc. It was straightforward, found out about miscarriage on Friday and surgery the following Monday and no retained products.

Second time I found out about the miscarriage a few weeks before having surgery then the first surgery didn't get everything so I had a repeat procedure. My period returned 8.5 weeks after the first procedure, 6 weeks after the second.

Conundrum12345 · 22/04/2021 10:08

Thanks all. Its been such a long drawn out process, nearly a month between finding the baby had died and the ERPC. Just want to get back to normal

I was 9+3 when we found out. The sac was measuring a little over 8 weeks. Will that make a difference with timeliness for period?

Chanel05 · 22/04/2021 15:11

@Conundrum12345 I don't think so I'm afraid. My baby died at 8+1 and I found out at 8+5 and I still bled for over 6 weeks.

Kinsters · 23/04/2021 02:08

@Conundrum12345 it didn't make a difference for me. I had surgery at almost exactly the same gestation both times (9 weeks). The first pregnancy measured 8 weeks and had had a heartbeat and growth was on track etc, the second measured only just 6, was super slow to grow and never had a heartbeat. So I'd have thought my period would come back quicker with the second one cause it was less developed but that wasn't the case.

You could look into using opks and/or temping to track when you ovulate.

Hi everyone, sorry to jump on this but I suffered a miscarriage in January and in March had to have surgical management. It’s been 13 weeks and I still haven’t had a period. Has anyone else experienced this before?

I was told to get onto my GP if it didn't come after 6 weeks x

@Conundrum12345 I've spoken to my GP and they have booked me in to have my bloods taken to test for PCOS or an under Active Thyroid 😭

When I suffered my miscarriage and they scanned me, I kept hearing them say PCO so when I asked them is there something wrong they said no, some women have ovaries that appear Polysystic but doesn't mean they have the syndrome. I spoke to 4 different staff members and they all said I don't fit the criteria so nothing to worry about but now I'm thinking there must be something wrong.

I'm nearly 27 I can't believe I've never known I could have it until now

Oh no thats terrible. I'd hate to say I'm shocked by the poor care women receive. After my ERPC I was still getting positive tests 6 weeks later went back and there's still tissue. Did another round of medical mgmt 2 weeks ago, went for another scan on Thursday and they said "it could be retained tissue or a polyp" come back in 3 months, in the meantime don't get pregnant. Its been 3 months since we found out about our MMC.

Needstosay I kicked up a fuss and seeing a new consultant next week

@Conundrum12345 shocking isn't it! So sorry for your loss. I hope everything is sorted for you soon. Really grates on me that every excuse has been because of Covid. I even raised a formal complaint to my hospital for leaving me 3 months with retained tissue as my surgeon was mortified I hadn't been booked in sooner. I got a letter the other day saying my complaint was put on hold because of Covid it's actually ridiculous. I don't understand why there isn't more support when women go through miscarriages. I always think, if they did a routine scan 4 weeks after bleeding they would have seen I retained tissue there and then and then would have had different options. Even after the surgery they didn't book me in for a routine scan. It's crazy xx

Hey OP, I had a D&C and got my period back just under 4weeks later (MMC discovered @ 12w but baby stopped growing around 9w)

Just an update. Had a hysterscopy today, there was still a good amount of pregnancy tissue left in my uterus from the ERPC. The consultant was very thorough and checked a number of times that everything had gone.

Hopefully after 3 months and 3 rounds of medical management and 2 surgical managements I can put this miscarriage behind me

@Conundrum12345 I'm so pleased to hear that you are coming out the other side! I have everything crossed for you and hope you can finally move forward.

I had bloods taken last week and they all seem to be normal, and they have scanned me and can't see any retained tissue so now they have given me progesterone tablets to see if they kick start my cycles again but if that doesn't work I need to ask my doctor to refer me to the fertility specialists Sad
