Hi all, just hoping to get some experiences or advice with anyone who has had a SCH before?
I am 7+2 and had a scary bleed on Sunday but had a scan yesterday morning and baby is fine!! But I was told I have a large SCH which is measuring at about 6cm by 5cm.
I have basically been put on bed rest for 2 weeks until my next scan and they are hoping it would of reabsorbed back into my body slightly by this time. I am so scared to have another big bleed as I know this can cause a miscarriage :(
Any experiences or positive stories would be great! Xx

@Muststopeating @georgarina thanks so much for sharing your stories!! Honestly this wait till my next scan is killing me. My midwife basically said not to worry unless I start experiencing cramping/contraction like pain but seeing blood every time I wipe isn't the most reassuring thing

@georgarina if you don't mind me asking, how long did you bleed for? was it on and off? X

Hi @SpiceGirl93 I had about 6 weeks of on and off loss- you know where you can feel it coming out in little gushes (sorry tmi) and then it settled in the day and I now just have a bit when I wipe. I always have blood at night. Usually now one gush that needs a pad change/ clean down but then stops in the day.

Oh that’s positive information from the midwife which makes me feel better!

I think I have been unlucky with the constant bleeding to be honest but I’m trying to accept this is just how it’ll be now. But annoying as this is meant to be our time blood free!

I never have had any pain other than typical stretching etc, I have lost a couple of clots too.

I really hope things settle for you. Don’t be scared to keep getting checked out. From 13-16 weeks I was literally in and out every couple of days.

My fingers are firmly crossed for you. I like to think of they can survive the big bleeds they’re a fighter.

Look after yourself. I try and take things easy but must say if I have an active day or not I don’t notice a massive impact on blood loss.

I've been pregnant four times and had SCHs in two pregnancies. Both times, I had one bad bleed in the first trimester (11 weeks and 10 weeks, respectively) and another bad bleed at some point in the second trimester. That was it! No pain. Both babies arrived healthy at full-term—no issues besides the scary bleeding episodes.

SpiceGirl93 · 24/04/2021 10:32

@SB2021 thanks for sharing! I love hearing positive stories. I am thankful that I haven't felt any pain whatsoever but it's just making me nervous that I am still bleeding 4/5 days on from the last big bleed :( feel like it's never going to stop! It's not heavy but it's still enough to have to wear a pad. Did your bleeding stop quite quickly after your two big bleeds? X

@SpiceGirl93 You're welcome! From what I recall, it was kinda like having a period but without the cramping. I definitely wore pads. I'm pretty sure each bleed lasted at least several days before totally clearing. I hope it clears quickly for you! I know it can be worrying. I had a friend who also had a few SCHs in various pregnancies and it always worked out well for her, too!

I had a huge bleed with big clots at 14+3. Absolutely heartbroken and couldn’t get a scan for 4 days. I went on self imposed bed rest until the scan and the bleeding had stopped by then. They diagnosed a heamatoma at the scan and I went on to have a full term pregnancy with no further bleeding and my “baby” is now 19!

ninadust · 12/09/2021 09:08

Hi @SpiceGirl93 how are you getting on? I had a big bleed yesterday and was certain we lost the baby - but turns out it was a SCH. I'm only 6+6 and I have never heard of this before so pretty terrified! X

Hi there,

I had a bleed on Monday morning. Nothing massive but bright red and enough to scare me. Was only there when I went to the toilet. It continued over the course of the day but turned to brown and then eventually died down completely.

I’ve had cramping low down but nothing I’d have concerned myself with otherwise.

I phoned EPC and they told me just to monitor it for the next 48/72 hours. Because it had died down, I think I gave myself some false hope and thought it was late implantation etc.

However I got a phone call from the EPC today and they are wanting me to go for a scan tomorrow and she said I could have had a miscarriage or it could be a haematoma. So naturally I’ve spent the whole afternoon googling them and I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this?

I’ve had no more bleeding since Monday but got really upset after todays phone call because I’ve had a miscarriage before and I’m so scared to go through it again.

Thanks in Advance …

Hi @Samsutt
I really feel for you right now! After my first bleed I actually took myself into A&E because I lost so much blood and was convinced it was a miscarriage because I didn't think a tiny 8 week old gestation could survive that! All of the doctors told me to prepare for the worst, went in the next day after the bleeding had stopped (that evening) and all was fine with baby. I couldn't believe it!
I did however have a HUGE Hematoma which unfortunately kept refilling every few days which was resulting in big bleeds and bed rest until I was around 13 weeks.
But I'm 34 weeks now and baby is healthy so please don't worry yet! The fact that you had a bleed and it stopped within a day is quite reassuring I think? How far gone are you? Has the cramping stopped?
Xx

Samsutt · 27/10/2021 21:32

@ Babyno1x thank you so much for getting back to me.

It had totally reassured me that it had stopped but the phone call today scared me again when she asked me to go in for a scan and mentioned miscarriage 😭 cramping still on and off but only mild, has been the whole time. I’m only about 8 weeks, just terrified for this scan now as the last time I went for a scan after a bleed it was not good news 😭

I had never heard of haematomas until the midwife mentioned it today ..

Babyno1x · 27/10/2021 21:59

@Samsutt
Same as me then when my bleeding started! I really think if you was miscarrying you would be in a lot more pain and there would be a lot more blood if you were 8 weeks so try not to worry too much Thanks
When is your scan at the EPU? tomorrow? Xx

Babyno1x · 27/10/2021 22:01

Hi @ninadust
Sorry I changed my username so I never saw your comment!
Everything worked out well for me in the end Smile I was put on total bed rest from around 8 weeks until my 12 week scan and then went and had another scan to check on the size of the Hematoma at 14 weeks and it had basically gone!
How are you getting on? X

Samsutt · 27/10/2021 22:04

@Babyno1x I know, my miscarriage before was around 10 weeks and there was a break in the bleeding from when it started but not this long. And the pains were worse. I’m trying to be hopeful but not too hopeful because I don’t want to give myself false hope 🙄 scan is at 11am tomorrow morning.

ninadust · 28/10/2021 07:43

Hi @Babyno1x - that is great to hear. Thank you for taking the time to reply :) I am also doing well, I am now 13+4 and the bleed was not seen at my 12 week scan! Xx

Hfarm1 · 09/11/2021 08:40

Hi all just jumping on this thread.

I'm 15 weeks, and at 13 weeks had a huge bleed with clots. Went to A&E but they couldn't really tell me anything other than my cervix was closed. Managed to get a scan 4 days later (they have a VERY strict "scans have to be at least two weeks apart" rule at my hospital, and I'd only recently had my 12 week scan). Baby was fine and she could see a patch of blood where the bleed could have come from - she didn't give it a name but I'm assuming hematoma?

Anyway it's been 15 days of continuous quite brown spotting, sometimes heavier, sometimes lighter. I'm so anxious. They had me checked for cervical erosion yesterday which I don't have, but noone seems to be mentioning that it could be old blood from the bleed? The doctor I saw yesterday was all doom and gloom and I just don't know what to think 😭 any reassurance greatly appreciated, I have another weeks wait till they will scan me again

Rsjem89 · 07/12/2021 20:33

Hi can anyone update me how you are all getting on ? I’m now 15 + 2 I first started bleeding at 12 weeks past huge clot and spotting red blood for few days I went back and forward to a n e who told me baby was fine. I had to wait until my 12 week scan for them to tell me I had a small hematoma I was then 13+2. I have bled brown blood since then and they advised me this is expected … I have another follow up scan next week I’m just so worried all the time. I actually feel ill and keep thinking is this an infection or something ? I just feel like I cant enjoy this pregnancy at all Sad I had a miscarriage just b4 I fell pregnant with this baby and this completely broke me. My midwife never told me bed rest or anything either didn’t really give me any information on this at all… just to contact mau if heavy bleeding or turns red xx

Mama8023 · 22/11/2024 19:27

Hi All, thanks for this feed, I’ve found myself in the same position at 7 weeks and don’t know what to think/ do. I’ve been carrying on with Pilates and weight training but assume I might need to slow down and just focus on walking maybe? Any advice would be really appreciated!!

SpiceGirl93 · 17/03/2025 20:29

Hi @Mama8023sorry I’ve only just seen your post. Hoping everything worked out for you! X
