So worried, no growth this week (9 weeks)

I know I am going to sound completely neurotic, but please be kind.

I have had 3 miscarriages in a very short space of time, and am now pregnant again. I'm officially 9 weeks, but think my dates are a bit off as last cycle was a miscarriage and I must have ovulated late.

I had a scan on Tuesday and everything looked great, nice heartbeat, measuring 8w+3 (18.2mm). This was actually a bit further ahead that I suspect I was.

After that I had some pains that really worried me, so I caved and had another scan today. Heartbeat looks good again, but the measurement was only 8w+2 (17.9mm). I know the scans were only 5 days apart, but my understanding is that the baby should grow about 1 mm per day at this point. I'm petrified that I'm going to lose this one as it looks like it hasn't grown at all over the past 5 days.

I rang EPU for some reassurance, and they have booked me to come in for another scan on Weds.

In the mean time I suppose I was hoping to hear some words of reassurance, perhaps from anyone who has had similarly close together scans that didn't show growth?

Thank you in advance!

Did you go to the same place for the scans and same sonographer?

Hi,

No, it was two different sonographers. Same ultrasound company, but two different branches (had to go to a different branch to get the last minute appointment).

So sorry for your losses.

I think it’s highly likely because the baby is so small at this stage that the measurements are just a bit off. There is probably nothing wrong.

I know you need to do what you need to do for reassurance so I totally understand why you’ve booked early scans, but I actually found them more anxiety inducing! I’ve had 2 losses and for my third pregnancy I decided against any early scans and just waited for 12 weeks. The wait was hard but I told myself if I wasn’t bleeding most likely everything was ok. I’m now 14 weeks and everything is good this time!

I also got a lot of weird twinges, pains, sharp stabs, period type pains etc in the first 12 weeks which did freak me out a lot, but it ended up all being fine.

Hope it all goes well for you 🌈

Thank you so much for your reply. I'm praying that you are right. I'm sort of wishing I hadn't had the scan now, as it has definitely made me feel worse. Although the worry was killing me anyway, so I guess I can't win!

I totally get it, the first 12 weeks are so hard! The fact there was still a heartbeat is very promising, and measurements are so small at this stage. Just remember it’s quite normal to have pains down there and if you aren’t bleeding chances are things are fine.

Are you taking anything like aspirin for example due to your previous losses? I have been taking aspirin this time and I really think it’s helped, as well as psychologically made me feel that I’m doing something that may help.

Please keep us updated.

Yes I've been taking low dose aspirin from as soon as I got my BFP, and also progesterone pessaries from 5 weeks. I don't know if they are helping but like you say, it helps me feel like I'm being as proactive as possible.

Hi, I hope you don´t mind me asking how it ended up for you? I´m in a very similar situation right now and I´m worried sick. Thank you
