Hi guys,

Just wondering has anyone else lost weight this quickly and if so did it continue? I had put on around 4 stone in total but 2 were before pregnancy due to drinkies during lockdown. Anyone else lost weight this quickly and if so did it continue or did you sort of stop afterwards?

Thanks!

Yes I lost all pregnancy weight very quickly both times. Breastfeeding definitely helped!

Congratulations!

Inthesky42 · 15/04/2021 11:25

It will slow down soon, but I found breastfeeding meant I actually ended up weighing half a stone less than I did when I got pregnant!

Chelyanne · 15/04/2021 11:25

Is it the 1st time you've weighed since before birth?

If so then it's normal to drop a large amount of weight as baby etc weigh a fair bit. Fat will take longer to shift, so long as you eat well it'll come off quite quickly though.

marshyindigo · 15/04/2021 11:29

I didn't weigh but was back in my pre-pregnancy clothes almost immediately. Took me longer to lose the puffiness second time. Breastfeeding definitely helped me particularly my first, and I found birth stopped my appetite for a few weeks after. I've got a photo where I look exhausted and gaunt, and this fat bouncing baby on my lap which looks hilarious as it was like he was sucking the life out of me Grin

OllyBJolly · 15/04/2021 11:35

I left hospital weighing my pre-pregnancy weight. I could wear my old jeans once I got home. I continued to lose weight to the extent that I had to stop breastfeeding. I looked like a skeleton.

First time around I carried about a stone and a half until I stopped bf 13 months later.

No rhyme or reason. Not aware my eating habits changed although perhaps having a toddler and baby upped my activity levels.

GreenSlide · 15/04/2021 12:04

I dropped about 3 stone in the first few weeks about birth. It was all fluid, you don't realise how puffy you are before you give birth.

MySocalledLoaf · 15/04/2021 12:12

Yes, I lost 20lb over about a week down to my exact prebirth weight. Only 5lb of that was the baby. You have extra blood while you’re pregnant and all sorts of other fluid.
It then plateaued for a bit and then my baby went from the 24th to the 96th percentile in about 6 weeks on breast milk only and I lost another 20 lb very fast despite eating a lot. I wasn’t overweight so it was too much. (The weight gain was fine for him because he’d been growth restricted.)

Wowzers. So jealous. Took me a year to lose that. Enjoy

Thanks everyone that's good to know, here's hoping I lose that extra 2 stone from lockdown. 😁

I put on about 15kg over pregnancy. I was at pre-pregnancy weight within 2-3 weeks (JFC the night sweats...), and then dropped an extra 10kg on top of that over 6 months. Sadly that's when lockdown began. Without having any baby groups to walk to, it's all crept back on again. Sad Only a couple kilos heavier than pre-pregnancy at least.

SunnySideUp2020 · 19/04/2021 06:48

I have birth last Monday and lost 2 stones already too. It was a mix of chunky baby water and probably some extra fat already shedding...
I think it's normal but might slow down now?

SunnySideUp2020 · 19/04/2021 06:48

Gave*

HollyBollyBooBoo · 19/04/2021 06:57

Yeah it dropped off in the first few weeks. I think by about week 3 I was a stone lighter than when DD was conceived.

orangejuicer · 19/04/2021 07:01

I lost about 18lb - it soon pilef back on and then some.

Look after yourself OP - don't worry too much about losing weight at the moment. Obviously your choice though!

NewbiePlanter · 19/04/2021 07:04

Might be worth a blood test if your still losing weight rapidly. My thyroid went over active after giving birth. Doc says its quite common. Just a thought.

PrimeraVez · 19/04/2021 09:33

It sounds quite normal to me, and I was similar with DC1. You should find that it slows right down though, so if you continue to loose at such a fast rate, you might want to check in with your doctor (as someone else mentioned it could be thryoid related, which is quite common post partum)

emjsmith108 · 19/04/2021 10:10

Thanks guys that really helpful it's slowed down since Thursday so I'm not worried at all, it would have been nice to drop it all in one go but that's wishful thinking! 🤣🤣

Yup! I gained four stone with my first, lost about 2 within the first month (I think it's mainly water?), then the other two were gone by six months.

Dothepropeller21 · 19/04/2021 15:23

2 stone within 6 days of giving birth so I was back to my pre pregnancy weight. Another stone by 1 month pp although I was eating soooo many cakes and chocolate. The night sweats were awful and I was exclusively breastfeeding. My weight loss then stopped and I started WW at 3.5 months pp (you get loads of extra points if you are breastfeeding). By 5.5 months pp I was down 4.5 stone and still eating loads as breastfeeding. Hoping it happens again after this baby as it's the easiest I've ever been able to lose weight. I also have an underactive thyroid which is monitored regularly so it definitely wasn't overactive.

Congratulations on your new baby!!!

eurochick · 19/04/2021 15:28

I lost 2.5 stone in a few weeks. The final stone was obviously the proper fat as opposed to extra blood, etc. That took two years to shift...
