Hi im looking for advice. My wife has had 3 positive pregnancy tests, it is 8 and a half weeks since the first day of her last period. She has been having cramping pains for the past 3 weeks and yesterday she had some pale pink mucus only a small amount. The maternity unit said to come up for an early scan. They have scanned and cannot see anything obvious growing. they thought they may have seen something at 1 point but due to position and angle they were unable to confirm or be sure. They have said they cannot see an ectopic pregnancy but they did comment that they saw a lot of her bowel (not sure if they mean a lot of solids inside the bowel and makes it harder to get a good view). She has experienced no bleeding at anytime and has had a blood test done to check hCG levels. This has come back at 16500 IU/L which she has been told is a good value for someone at 8 weeks. They have asked for her to come back in 48 hours to repeat bloods. Has anyone else experienced this. The contraceptive pill was stopped in December, she had a period in January and then in February 28 days later. I know ovulation can happen 2 to 3 weeks later which means she could only really have 5 to 6 weeks of grown rather than 8 weeks. I find it all very confusing with pregnancy dates. Just so hard to see her so upset this morning :-(. Any words of advice or wisdom much appreciated.

Hi,
The only advise I can give is to hang in there and see what the results of the next bloods come back as. Its easier said than done I know and my thoughts are with you both.
My sister went through something very similar which unfortunately didn't end positively (I think they called it a molar pregnancy)
On the flip side, I had a scan at 6weeks with DS2 and you really had to look so it may be that the dates are slightly out?
I hope it all goes well for you.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I have had a look at molar pregnancy and her womb did not look like the pictures I have seen on the internet. The uterus just looked very clear black within nothing in the middle. (I have some experience with ultrasound within my job)
Dates wise there is always a possibility that dates maybe out. My wife waited till after her period was due and then did the pregnancy test which came up positive. From ovulation rather than first day of last period she would only be 6 weeks 4 days. but its so hard to know when people use different dating methods. I suppose will just have to wait but it defiantly isn't easy especially when I see my wife so upset.

The person doing the scan did think they may have seen something but just seem in an awkward place and they couldn't get a view they may have shown what they saw better. Im sorry about your sisters pregnancy I have just read a bit more into it. Its such a hard time for people this is my first time experiencing this I do not know how people who go through this multiple times cope :-(

I was also on the contraceptive pill and would be 5/6 weeks if I went off last period but I know for a fact I’m only 4 weeks because I only ovulated 2 weeks ago so the embryo can only be 2 weeks...your wife is probably not 8 weeks along and more like 6....possibly just too early to see. Hcg levels are good. The only concern would maybe be ectopic but if they didn’t see anything in tubes either that’s also promising. I would wait it out and hope in a few days they’ll be able to see more on ultrasound ☺️
