Failed medical management of miscarriage

Unfortunately at a pregnancy scan on Friday I was diagnosed with a missed miscarriage. According to my LMP I was 9+ 5 but the baby was measuring 6+1 and there was no heartbeat.

I was given a Misoprostol pessary and bleeding did start 4 hours later - but was very light and only got lighter overnight. I then had 3 days of dark brown spotting and today bleeding has completely stopped.

I’ve been advised by EPU that I have to wait 2 weeks for a scan to confirm whether the pessary has worked - but I’m sure it hasn’t. The nurse said that sometimes women can miscarry with only light bleeding and no pain. But I had another missed miscarriage last year managed in the same way with a pessary and the pain was excruciating and bleeding was extremely heavy with clots and tissue. I haven’t experienced anything like that this time and find it strange that the bleeding has already stopped.

Has anyone else experience a painless medically managed miscarriage with only light bleeding?

Sorry for your loss. It’s a very hard time. And sorry my story isn’t great but it’s experience..

I had the same as you, very light bleeding and didn’t feel I passed anything significant. I went back to EGU for scan and confirmed I was right in that I thought it hadn’t passed. Had a second dose, haemorrhaged and ended up overnight in hospital. Still had retained products even after that so had to have MVA.

Two weeks is too long to be in limbo - I’d chase them up and say you’re not happy.

Hopefully for you it was just light and had passed, but if not then I’d totally recommend MVA over a second dose.

Hope it all goes ok x

Thanks so much for replying - it's good to know the negative stories too so that I'm prepared. I'm so sorry you had to go through that awful experience.

My EPU are flat out refusing to scan me or repeat the treatment until 2 weeks so I've gone private and managed to get a scan and repeat dose of Misoprostol. The private consultant I spoke to said in his opinion it's impossible I could have passed the sac with only very light bleeding, and he thinks the dose I was given before was too low.

Hopefully it works this time.

Thanks again x
