Private maternity Oxfordshire?

Hiya, does anyone have a recommendation for private maternity in Oxfordshire please? I know the John Radcliffe takes some private patients but is there anywhere else? First time so pretty nervous, any and all suggestions much appreciated. Thank you!

Not sure about private maternity but may be worth looking at midwife led units if uncomplicated. I had excellent experience at Wantage or had excellent reports of Wallingford. Also again if uncomplicated it might be worth thinking of a doula who will provide support throughout. To be fair the only benefit of private maternity is a better room. Having given birth at 3am I was home by 9am so I would have felt a bit aggrieved paying thousands. Also postnatal care and breastfeeding advice was excellent at Wantage. They saw us ever other day for two weeks until breastfeeding established and jaundice went down.

Thank you! Very much appreciated. I don’t know if I count as “complicated”, but I’m 39 and have had one miscarriage before. It was a “missed miscarriage”, so I needed an operation afterwards and couldn’t get one because the John Radcliffe (where I was in maternity care) had effectively shut down due to the spike in COVID cases. We spent weeks at home ringing any and all hospitals within 100 miles of us and eventually found a private place to do it. I’m really scared this time round that something like that will happen again. The poor NHS is under so much pressure, especially Oxford hospitals and it will be winter again by the time I’m giving birth. So I thought safer perhaps to find somewhere less prone to COVID-related crises. Really appreciate the suggestions.

I had brilliant care at the JR when I gave birth in the deepest midst of Covid, if that helps put your mind at ease any - though I can understand what you went through must have been really scary, and off-putting for you. However, I also had a FABULOUS doula in Oxfordshire (who wasn't able to come in with me) but there throughout my entire pregnancy journey, and she was the calm, steady pair of hands I needed. If you would like her name, please PM me, as she was honestly the best money I ever spent.

Oh thank you! That’s really kind. Will PM you :)

I've had 4 babies at the JR, soon to be 5. The care on delivery suite has always been excellent. Wantage and Wallingford are also excellent but I've never been fortunate enough to deliver there.

I really recommend following Oxfordshire Maternity Voices Partnership on FB as they regularly run Q and A and update sessions with one of the consultant midwives which might ease your mind and answer some questions.

If you want/need a private scan I wholeheartedly recommend Beard Mill Clinic, Victoria is amazing.

Thank you! I’ve read about Beard Mill actually, will get in touch with them.

Its fantastic. I went for an early reassurance scan with DC4 and she was fab. Then in this pregnancy the NHS sonographer couldn't get nuchal measurements at the 12wk scan due to babys position, so told me my options were quad test or private. Victoria saw me the next day.

@Jcat28 sorry to hear about your miscarriage experience. Victoria at Beardmill clinic as others have said is amazing I saw her for unfortunately after a couple of mis carriages and then through my successful pregnancy for NIPT testing and abnomaly scans etc. She is a voice of reassurance and can usually fit you in a short notice. I hope all goes well for you x

@bml I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been through it too, and more than once. Wonderful to hear you’ve had a successful pregnancy now :)
