Ruboo93xo · 12/04/2021 15:16

I have recently found out I am pregnant, however I have been a weed smoker for a number of years now and would like any advice on how my long term habits may affect this pregnancy and also the negative effects of use while pregnant?

Thankyou in advance

From what I've looked up prenatal use can increase risk of autism and psychosis

Stick to actual medical guidance rather than mummy-blogs as not everyone's experience will be the same.

Also, be honest with your midwife about your usage and how often. She will be able to signpost you accordingly or help you to cut down/quit in the correct way without harming you

Are you on tiktok? If you are.. type in "cannamoms" there are alot of mums who smoke or have smoked through pregnancy and they answer questions etc..
I smoked weed with my first child until I was 20 weeks then I started feeling the kicks and felt guilty and haven't smoked so much as a cigarette since! She does have autism BUT so do my other 2 children and I didnt smoke weed or cigarettes or anything when pregnant with them...

Why would anyone knowingly carry on with something that could harm or negatively affect their precious baby. I cannot understand it.

Fetal exposure has been associated with changes in physical growth and maturation early in life but long-term growth, including pubertal milestones, are unaffected. Global intelligence scores in children with a history of in utero cannabis exposure are typically not affected but aspects of cognition involved with executive functioning (e.g. attention, inhibitory control, planning) can be negatively impacted. Effects of exposure also include higher levels of depression and anxiety during adolescence, suggesting that psychological outcomes may be particularly sensitive to the disrupting influence of gestational cannabis exposure. Results from preclinical modeling studies have confirmed that in other mammalian species, fetal exposure to THC does not result in changes in long-term physical growth but may negatively impact certain aspects of cognition, and heighten the occurrence of behaviors that are consistent with anxiety.

This is from this study
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6211194/

This study of 5,500 women and subsequent meta-analysis - which is there they look at other comparable studies. Show a 3 fold increase in stillbirths, independent of cigarette smoking (which carries its own risks).

Probably not a good idea!

I'm surprised social services weren't involved, to be honest. So cruel to subject your unborn children to this pathetic habit.

Smoking weed during pregnancy negatively effects your baby. So stop doing it. That’s all you need to know. Although I do see plenty of pregnant low life’s outside the doors of the maternity hospital smoking cigarettes so it’s clear many ‘mothers’ put themselves first over the well being of their child so maybe you will be one of those unfit parents!
