Aspirin and bad taste in mouth

I'm 16 weeks pregnant and on a daily low dose of aspirin due to low PAAPA and risk of issues due to high blood pressure.

Been taking the aspirin for about a fortnight now and I have a constant bad taste in my mouth starting about 3 days ago. I'm wondering if it's the aspirin? I've been really gassy since I fell pregnant and I'm burping all the time. This was annoying but now it's accompanied by this awful taste!

I no longer have any morning sickness as that went at about 12 weeks thank god, but this taste is driving me crazy.

I hate dispersive aspirin in water- makes me gag. So I've just been swallowing them as is with milk. Everything I read online says this shouldn't be an issue. But might it be what's causing the bad taste? Or does aspirin just have that as a side effect in general?

I've been taking aspirin since 8 weeks pregnant.
Now 31 and have never had any bad taste in my mouth or any digestive issues etc from it.
I didn't know you dissolve it in water? My packet I get doesn't say to do this but to swallow it

I'll maybe ask them to switch to the non dispersible kind in that case. Maybe it's unrelated and just another joyful pregnancy symptom!

Iv been on aspirin since 8 weeks and the same ones as you and midwife told me aslong as you drink plenty water you can just swallow them whole, never had a funny taste left in my mouth though

Have you been to see about acid reflux? Just with you saying gassy and burping ect, i have suffered with Acid reflux for a number of years and being pregnant only made it worse

SweetAsANutt · 11/04/2021 20:49

Can you liken it to anything? Metallic taste?

Hi I used to very very occasionally get heartburn so would always have rennies in the house. Really rare though. But since falling pregnant I've suffered heart burn far more frequently although it's eased up since the sickness has gone.

The burping happens all the time whether or not I'm getting any heart burn.

It's ridiculous!

Like I say, I've been burping non stop, it's only the past few days I've had this bad taste along with it. Aspirin is the only new thing really so wondered if it was linked.

No it's just a foul taste. I suppose a sort of sulphurous taste is the best description I have. Just all round unpleasant. Not metallic.

Perhaps I'm not drinking enough with them as I just take them with a small half glass of milk, enough to get them down. I'll try making sure I'm drinking more when I take them.

Definitely talk to your midwife but I know metallic or sour taste can be normal in first trimester.
