17 weeks second baby still no movement

Exactly as the title says- I know all pregnancies are different but I'm pretty sure I had felt some movement by now with my daughter. And I was expecting to have felt it already as I thought you felt it earlier with second babies. I'm really trying not to worry but can't help it! Anyone else been in the same boat?

Do you know where your placenta is? If you have an anterior it can cushion a lot of babys movement.

I have one this time and was worried about movements being few and far between, getting loads now at 20+5 though.

pigglepot · 04/04/2021 19:22

@Chelyanne it's anterior but it was last time too! 😭

Hey, I'm 21 weeks with my second and only really started feeling movement last week. It can depend on where your placenta is and how your baby is lying. GL x

Workinghardeveryday · 04/04/2021 19:27

I didn’t feel moving until 21 weeks with second pregnancy and it was a twin pregnancy!

mrsed1987 · 04/04/2021 19:30

I was almost 22 weeks so don't panic

I actually felt it later with my second than I did my first! My first was around 15 weeks, my second wasn't until nearly 20 weeks!
DeusEx · 04/04/2021 19:37

I am at 19 weeks and was also worried about this. Encouraging hearing other experiences.

Is there a stage at which you should worry?

Have 20 week scan in a week or so which will reassure. Not so good for you I realise OP as you have a few more weeks to wait - sorry, didn’t mean to hijack or be rude.

jupitermars1345 · 04/04/2021 19:42

AAnterior both times here
Felt my first at 19 weeks and my second baby at 19 weeks t.V

Pbbananabagel · 04/04/2021 19:48

Same here, felt first really early and didn’t feel this one until after the 20wk scan - posterior placenta first time and anterior this time.

pigglepot · 04/04/2021 21:02

@georgarina she was lying across my tummy at the last scan...do you think that would make a difference?

I’m 23 weeks now and felt my first baby at 16 weeks exactly, the twitching feeling. This time I was around 18 weeks, I had the same worries as you but we had a gender scan at 17 weeks and all was fine so I was reassured. He’s moving loads now though!

Cafeaulait27 · 05/04/2021 07:22

Are you able to pay for a private scan for reassurance? Xxx

BertieBotts · 05/04/2021 08:12

Felt movement much later with my third. With the first two around 12-13 weeks. With the third one something at 13 weeks then nothing until more like 18/19.

georgarina · 05/04/2021 08:23

@pigglepot could be, if she's kicking against the placenta not you

Pinchoftums · 05/04/2021 08:26

I was 16 weeks with first and then 21 weeks with the next two. Probably more space the second time!

Smurf123 · 05/04/2021 08:42

I'm currently 22 +4weeks with my second and have an anterior placenta. Like you I was panicking.. My 20 week scan wasn't until 21+4.. I started feeling a tiny bit of movement about 21+1.. At my scan baby was moving away lots sonographer actually said "so your feeling none of this???" Really wasn't.. The odd bubble that was it. Now I'm feeling a fair bit more and can feel proper kicks at time. Still some quiet times though (when I still worry!) but was told a scan it would be 24 weeks before I feel regular movement and from that point need to keep track of it etc.

WalkingMeAway · 05/04/2021 09:01

It's still very early.

My first was anterior and I didn't feel anything until 23w

My second was posterior and I felt those very first flutters at 18w but no proper movement until after 20w.

My third is posterior and I felt the first flutters at 16w and more prominent by 18w.

It's very dependant on position as well.

MrsMDD · 05/04/2021 09:01

Didn't feel anything with my second baby until 22 weeks with anterior placenta. Now pregnant on my 3rd and it was 21 weeks but much fainter. Closer to 23 before I felt anything substantial. Not always true about feeling earlier on subsequent pregnancies

Andthenanothercupoftea · 05/04/2021 09:34

First baby, I'm near 21 weeks, some movement (I think) but not much or anything consistent. I've got an anterior placenta. They were wriggling about like anything when I had my scan though!

notveryrelaxed · 05/04/2021 09:43

Same here - second and only really felt proper movements this week (21 weeks today)

pigglepot · 05/04/2021 09:53

@Cafeaulait27 I've already had 3 private scans this pregnancy 🤦‍♀️ so I don't think I can really justify another!! We also live in an area where the private scan places are about an hours drive from us so it means finding childcare and things for my daughter so it's a bit of a logistical nightmare too!

Sounds like a lot of people didn't get movement until around 21 weeks! I've got two family members who are also pregnant and who have both felt loads of movement already so it worries me even more! But it sounds like I'm probably being silly for worrying. Pregnancy is such a strange time isn't it- there's always something to think or worry about!!
