Diarrhoea instead of vomiting in early pregnancy

I have mentioned this to the midwife who thought it was probably hormones. Basically instead of vomiting I will feel very sick for about 15 mins, then go to the loo and have diarrhoea. It happens once- three times a day and leaves my tummy feeling very sore afterwards.

I’m craving salads, fruits and things like butter beans and chickpeas which probably isn’t helping, if I have a day where I eat less fruit or salad and more potatoes then it does improve.

Just wondered if anyone else had similar? It’s getting to the point I’m frightened to go to a walk in the park etc in case there isn’t a toilet close by. If anyone else did have this, when did it start to improve?

I'm the total opposite and not been able to go to the loo and it's killing me 😖 I'd love for some diarreah right now 🤦🏼‍♀️ never thought I'd say that!

Hope you're okay and not too uncomfortable! I've been in pain all week with it!

PerspicaciousGreen · 02/04/2021 14:18

I have this right now, and had it a bit with #2 as well. All I can eat until the evening is fruit, which isn't helping! I get it 4-8 times in the first two hours of waking. Had it for nearly two weeks now (6-8 weeks pregnant) and I think it's starting to ease off.

PerspicaciousGreen · 02/04/2021 14:19

Got to say, though, I was so constipated with #1 I thought I was going to die, so I prefer this! And mine's only in the morning

Yes I had much worse constipation with 1 and 2, this is my first pregnancy. All I can eat is soup, fruit and vegetables and things like beans and dry bread. I’ve also got horrible heartburn and can taste what food I’ve eaten in my mouth for ages Blush I do remember how awful constipation is though; that feeling of bloated ness is just awful!! My tummy is aching after I’ve been to the loo. One thing that does take the sickness off straight away is an orange.

Sorry this is my THIRD pregnancy not first. Feel so rough today, have slept loads but my tummy just feels so uncomfortable, achy and sore!

Yes I have had this too - no sickness but diarrhoea instead. I’m on Metformin so not sure if that has something to do with it but I was fine before pregnancy. Midwife didn’t seem too concerned when I mentioned it and Google seems to suggest it’s the increase in hormones.

Pumpkinpops · 02/04/2021 17:58

I had this in my second pregnancy. It was very reminiscent of when I had Delhi Belly in India! Mine disappeared when I got to 13 weeks.

ColourfulElmerElephant · 02/04/2021 18:07

I had this in the first trimester of all six of my pregnancies and have never had sickness or vomiting.

Cinderellashoes · 02/04/2021 18:09

Thanks so much for the replies it has really helped reassure me. I’m currently 7.5 weeks so hoping it eases off. It’s nice not to BE sick but feeling sick and having diarrhoea and constant tummy aches isn’t that much fun!

Did any of you who had this find anything which helped?

Yes I’ve had this with both of mine! It can definitely be a symptom of early pregnancy! Think it eased off around 8-9 weeks or so x

Biscuits101 · 02/04/2021 18:12

I had this with twins, went about 10 weeks

Username54789129671 · 02/04/2021 18:14

I had this with my first pregnancy. It was awful as I couldn't walk the dog, because as soon as I left the house I needed to go. I had sickness too. I think it must have got better towards 7/8 weeks though, so hopefully you'll will ease off soon

PerspicaciousGreen · 02/04/2021 18:21

I'd ring up your local pharmacy and ask. Thankfully my nausea meds have "constipation" as a side effect so I think it's easing off! I don't think you're supposed to take Immodium, but your pharmacist may know something that's safe for pregnancy.

jessnoah · 02/04/2021 18:29

Yes had this in my second pregnancy, it's awful and I'd rather constipation. On my third pregnancy now and it's pure sickness Envy

ConnieDobbs · 02/04/2021 18:33

I had that in my 2nd pregnancy, I do suffer from ibs and I guess that the pregnancy hormones must have triggered something. The constipation came in later pregnancy. Such a glamorous time Grin

Back in the bathroom again Sad had a curry because dh was having one and it’s the first time I’ve really fancied anything!!! An hour later I’m back on the loo with tummy cramps. Honestly, i am so so tired of this now.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I'm 27 weeks and still awful. Nothing I can take for it. Up every hour during the night.

lucea87 · 02/04/2021 21:36

I'm currently 5+2 and I have had this for 2 weeks now 😭 I had IBS in the past and I think implantation made it flare. I wake up at 6am every day feeling so sick and within 15 mins have to go to the loo. However I often end up having this throughout the day and then still feeling like I need to go in the evening but feeling constipated! Add in trapped wind too and it's a whole load of fun 😂 peppermint tea has helped me a little bit 😕

jessstan2 · 02/04/2021 21:44

You and your 'tummy' :-). I didn't know people still said that.

It must be awful. Diarrhoea is dreadful.

Like others I was more inclined to be constipated when pregnant. To be honest I was constipated all my life up until giving birth after which things were more 'normal'. I was so used to being constipated and then, when I did 'go', experiencing dreadful cramps for ages, I thought nothing of giving birth. It was a doddle and I felt as though I'd been doing it all my life!

I hope your digestive system settles down soon.

Cinderellashoes · 03/04/2021 11:24

Still said what - tummy?! It’s all I’ve ever said Grin

Hopefully it’s all worth it! Having a scan a week today and can’t wait!
