First time mum/labour confused and tired!

Morning everyone

Thought I’d jump on here and see if anyone can shed any clarification!

I’m 39+4 and woke up at 4am yesterday with mild contractions that felt like period pains. I then went to the loo and noticed I’d started losing my mucus plug. The period pains I had felt exactly how I’ve been described contractions to be, mild pain that radiates and peaks then eases off - my tummy gets extremely hard like a rock when I have one.

They seemed to ease off at around 3/4pm but then started straight back up after I had a bath in the evening. I’ve been up all night again because the pain just wakes me up immediately as soon as I start getting one.

They aren’t consistent enough for me to call the midwife and ask her if I can go in though. I have called to explain what’s happening etc and she said stay home for now which was my plan anyway. Basically wondering what this is! Is this the latent phase of labour, will true labour kick in soon? I don’t know what to expect.

The pains I am now getting are still period types but I’d say definitely increased and radiates right into my pelvis and hips. Which kills!

Thanks 😊

Sounds like early labour. It can last a few days. Rest as much as you can and take lots of nice baths. You can always contact the midwife just to let them know.

This kinda happened to me, i had mild contractions/tummy pains on and off all saturday night but they never mounted to anything.
I then had nothing all of sunday and then it all started again monday evening and DS was born early tuesday morning.
So it could still be a wee wait yet but sound like baba is almost ready to make an appearance!!

Yep with my first I was contracting like that for a couple of days before I got hospital and I was still only 2cm dilated. I know it's hard but do try to get some rest because you'll need all your energy soon. Good luck 😁

I had like three nights of that (and no sleep) before my waters broke and it kicked off. Was still only 2cm when I got to hospital after that and I insisted on drugs so I could get some rest.

I blame the lack of sleep for the need for interventions later on.

All you should be doing is taking paracetamol, having baths, eat and rest. Some would say keep active when not resting and do exercises from the spinning babies website to help baby get into optimal birthing position.
