Only arm and leg “buds” at 10w scan?

Went for a private scan and they said they could just see arm and leg buds?

Everything I have read or looked at shows clear arms and legs functioning and visible. I’ve called the ultrasound place back just to confirm this is right for the gestation, but does this sound right?

Did they not do a measure to check you were 10w? Did you see a picture?

I recently had a private scan at 10 weeks, I could see the screen and they talked me through what we were seeing. Though I could make it out myself.

There were arms and legs, a bit stumpy but more than buds.

I’m sorry I don’t know the technicalities but I am sure the ultrasound place would have referred you on and made it clear if there was anything to be concerned about

I’m not qualified enough to say what should be seen at a 10wk scan. But did they indicate to you that there was anything to worry about?

They did measure me at 10w 1 day and they said oh look, arm and leg buds moving around. I’ve called back to check because I thought there would be actual arms and legs at this stage. Or at least more than buds?

It sounds like they were just referring to their arms and legs as that and not in a concerning way as they're still very small and out of proportion to their head ect.

Oh yeah that makes sense. Thank you!

My sonographer only referred to limbs and a baby after 12 weeks. Before 12 weeks it was impersonal language even when there was a strong heartbeat (my sonographer at a similar point of time called them appendages lol) - I guess they do it to protect themselves too as they must see a lot of early losses

DrumAndMonkey · 31/03/2021 18:18

That’s a good point. I went for reassurance which I got from the heartbeat but I’ve come away with more questions! I guess that is just pregnancy anxiety!
