Low dose aspirin when to take?

Holly91 · 31/03/2021 13:58

Just looking for advise as I can’t get hold of midwife. I’ve been to pick up my prescription for low dose aspirin today and I can’t remember if my midwife told me not to take it until I’d had my 12 week scan (which I’m still awaiting for date to come through) Any advice? X

Supposed to take it as soon as you get it

I was told from 12 (haven’t yet had my dating scan at approx 12+4 but have started aspirin anyway)

I have been in aspirin since I was 9 weeks which was when I had my booking in appointment. I have been told to take it till the end of pregnancy.

I was told to take it from when I got it. I got it at 13 weeks. My scan was at 12 weeks.

Guys and St Thomas have this leaflet - www.guysandstthomas.nhs.uk/resources/patient-information/maternity/low-dose-aspirin-in-pregnancy-to-prevent-pre-eclampsia.pdf

And say from 12 weeks.

Other maternity hospitals I've quickly googled say the same.

@Holly91 depends what you’re taking it for. I am taking it as an high risk for pre eclampsia because of family history. I was told to start taking after 12 week scan (as this will confirm how far along you are). I take 2 x 75mg before I go to bed x

Holly91 · 31/03/2021 14:16

Thanks for all the quick replys 😊 yes it’s for higher risk of pre eclampsia because of family history

You're better off asking your midwife as I was prescribed it for this too and told to start taking it straight away

@Holly91 personally I was given aspirin at my booking appointment at 8 weeks, but told not to start taking until 12 week scan. As PP has said, worth checking with your midwife about what you specifically should do, as seems others have been given different advice x
