What size for leaving hospital

Hi

I was just trying to get bits and pieces for the baby in hospital and also the coming home outfit. What size have you bought? I’m swaying between newborn and the next size. I know he’s not small just now as he’s measuring 1 and a half weeks bigger than where he should be at 28 weeks which I’m told isn’t a concern.

I used newborn for my 2 and they were both around 7lb 11oz/13oz. They were plenty big enough

I used newborn for all 3 of mine in the hospital/coming home.

DD 8lb 9oz
DS1 7lb 4 1/2oz
DS2 9lb 10oz

My DS was "big for gestational age" during late pregnancy.

Born 9lb 7oz

I took George ASDA first size & 0-3 months.

0-3 was huge & didn't fit for a good few weeks. The "first size" was perfect.

Would buy the first size again from George. Really good price & fab quality. Washed time & time again and still kept for any future babies as in great condition.

I had newborn for my 9lb DS, as he was still curled up in foetal position for the first couple of days it fit perfectly then by day 4 he was in size up to 1 month clothes xx

10lbers here and Newborn size was still fine for all of them.

I have 3-4 sets of Newborn clothes (bodysuit and sleepsuit) and a couple of hats, as well as 2 x 0-3month bodysuits & sleepsuits just in case. Also bringing 2 blankets and several muslins.

Last time, I'd only brought 1 X Newborn and 1 X 0-3, expecting hubby could just bring more if we had to stay. Gave birth at 10pm, stayed overnight alone (sent hubby home to get some sleep) and baby was sick all over himself and his only blanket overnight. It was amniotic fluid I believe, so pretty horrible. He then had to wear a way too big 0-3 outfit until hubby came back the next morning and I had to be given a different blanket for him. Just remember the midwife tutting and being really rude/disapproving as she had to change him; post-epidural and with a catheter, I couldn't move out of bed to do it and had to flail to reach my bag to even pass her the other clothes.

So basically, bring spares and I'd always recommend the zip-lock bag tactic - this time I have a few separate pouches containing a full outfit each and labelled with size. My baby was 8lb on the dot - 0-3mon was too big. It does depend on the baby, but I wouldn't waste too much space on the next size up, unless you are very likely to have a large/long baby.

Our eldest was an average 7lb 7oz and was fine in newborn.
Our other 4 were 8lb 5oz to 10lb 12oz and fit in up to 1 month.

I've been buying 'up to1 month' this goes up to 10lbs. I only bought 0-3 for my ds and they swamped him in hospital and someone had to rush out and buy smaller clothes so I won't be having a repeat Grin
With buy something newborn size as well

Thanks it’s amazing how difference in weight all these babies are but still fit newborn, I was told that they are still quite curled up to begin with. Thanks I hadn’t heard of the zip lock bag tactic Smile
