What do 12 week blood results mean?

I just got my letter with my 12 week blood results - 1:199 for Down's Syndrome. I know this is low risk but still a bit higher than I was hoping. I came back as 1:90 in my last pregnancy.

I was just wondering what the numbers actually mean? Last time I had high HCG and low Papp-a - is that the case again here but less extreme?

HCG 4.56 MoM
Papp-a 0.74 MoM

It means 1 in 199 people with the same results as you will have a baby with Down syndrome. 1 in 150 or lower is considered high risk. You could pay for a private test which is a non invasive test I believe. Not sure what it’s called but they are much more accurate and lots of people do them! Not sure about the HcG numbers but I have a ppap of 0.5 so I looked into it and the average is 1 so 0.74 is not low! Xx

(Below 0.4 is considered low for Papp a)

Thanks - yea we had the harmony test last time. I don't think we will this time as it's quite pricey when not discounted by the NHS! Thanks for the info re the papp-a. I guess if mom 1 is average then my HCG is quite high!

Yes maybe that’s what it is! I know they do the mom thing for Papp a but not sure if it’s the exact same for hcg? Could also be your age or NT measurement that’s put the probability up? Do you have your trail trees from your first pregnancy to compare x

I'm not sure what trail trees are 😅 I know the NT is normal range though as she said at the scan. Bloody hormones and proteins! I'm 31 so that could be a factor I guess.
