Spotting, early pregnancy, help?!

Hi there,

I found out last week that I am pregnant. I’ve had numerous really strong positives from (what I gather to be) between 9-11dpo. When I do a due date calculation it says I’m four weeks but my Premom app says 5 weeks, it’s confusing.

I started spotting yesterday (my period should have been due on Tuesday but since they’re irregular, that’s not a given), just when I wipe, nothing in my pants or anything. The Premom app says that bleeding can be expected at this time and I’m trying not to Google and freak out.

I’ve been keeping an eye on it and hadn’t spotted all day till I went to the loo about an hour ago. My stomach now feels very tight (not painful) and I’m feeling slightly sick.

I’m just wondering if I should phone my doctors tomorrow or just keep on eye on it as it’s quite early and I’ve read there’s not much can be done?

I had a miscarriage 5 years ago (I didn’t know I was pregnant and I was on the pill) and there was no bleeding at all (just the sac with the embryo in it), I did have cramps but I mistook them for IBS pains.

I’m petrified.

I've had brown and pink spotting between 4 and 7 weeks with all 5 of my pregnancies.
Had an early scan with 2 of them and was confirmed it was leftover blood from implantation.

Is it red blood?

Doctors unfortunately won't do anything.
They may possibly be able to get you a scan at the EPU but at 4 weeks, it's unlikely they'll see anything and will often cause more worry than anything

Hi OP. I’m 5 weeks pregnant and going through the same thing as you at the moment. I spoke to the Early Pregnancy Unit at my hospital and they said as above that it would be too early to see anything on a scan and that I’d probably find that even more worrying. So I now have an appointment for 2 weeks time when I’ll be 7 weeks. Hopefully then they’ll be able to tell me if the pregnancy is viable or not (I’ve had 2 MMC’s in the last 6 months).

I am worried but feel that if this pregnancy is meant to be then it will. And if I miscarry again then there was obviously something wrong with the embryo anyway so it would never have been the healthy baby that I want.

I hope all is okay with you and that your pregnancy progresses well.

I spotted from 13dpo (+ve at 12dpo) pretty much continuously to 10 weeks then on and off until 12 weeks. I had an early scan at EPU at 6 weeks and they found a subchorionic hematoma which was causing it. Just had my 12 week scan and it's gone. Hope that helps x

Thanks for everyone’s replies. I suppose there’s nothing to do but wait and think positive thoughts.

@SnooperTrooper12345 yesterday the first time I wiped it was bright pink, almost red. But after that it’s been the smallest amount of pink/brown. I spot for about 2/3 days before my period and it’s like that. I actually feel like my period is starting the way my belly feels as well.

@WantingAnother I’m sorry for your losses 😞 I think I’ll take a leaf out of your book and think of it that way, if it’s meant to be, it will be. Good luck for your next appointment 🤞🏼😊

@Ummm21 thank you, that’s given me a bit of hope. I’m going to try and just keep calm and think positive.

Feeling like your period is starting is completely normal and you'll probably feel like that for a few weeks!

@Nouveau2021 how did everything turn out in the end? I'm 3+6 and having light spotting and feeling worried.

Nouveau2021 · 26/09/2022 20:37

Hi @Algor1thm, happy to report that this was most likely to be implantation bleeding going by the date of my post.

i have a happy, healthy baby girl who’s almost a year old. She was born 7 weeks premature but that was due to me having preeclampsia, nothing to do with the bleeding.

as I found out from my frantic googling, spotting is quite normal at various stages of pregnancy. It’s when it’s heavy and darker blood that you need to take yourself to be checked. I hope you’re ok.

@Nouveau2021 thanks so much for your reply and so glad to hear about your healthy little girl. Still light spotting at the moment, I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Wannabemo · 07/11/2022 20:34

What a lovely outcome op!
@Nouveau2021

@Algor1thm hope your ok I’m now in a similar boat.

Algor1thm · 08/11/2022 10:55

@Wannabemo sorry to hear that. I had a scan at 6 weeks and they saw a baby and a heartbeat. I'm now 10 weeks and presume everything is developing well, but I'll find out at my scan in a couple of weeks. Best of luck to you!

Wannabemo · 08/11/2022 10:57

Aww congratulations that’s great!! Mines seem to have stopped so fingers crossed x
