Trying for a baby after having d&c

Hey... I just wondered if I could get some experiences from like minded people who have had to have a d&c and when you started ttc afterwards? I had mixed advice from hospital after my recent d&c (unfortunately my second) baby was 7+6. Did you wait 3 months or 1 as I was told both time lines ? Have you had success? I'm 31 and I lost my first baby at 6 weeks in September 2019. I'm obviously very keen to try again but scared about trying too soon.... Any opinions or experiences would be great to hear. Xx

Hi, sorry to hear you've had a tough time.

I'm 32, and lost my first pregnancy at 9 weeks at the end of November. Missed miscarriage, I had a D&C. I was told to wait for one proper cycle (so a proper period) before TTC, and only for dating purposes.

Luckily, I got pregnant that first proper cycle and am now 11 weeks pregnant. Haven't had my first scan yet, so hoping for a positive result this time - obviously very anxious.

I looked online and unless it was a later loss or you have specific medical reasons that mean you should wait longer, most sources seem to agree there's no need to wait, even for a period. I chose to just because I'd like to be able to feel comfortable with the dating if there were issues, and I felt like it wasn't long to wait.

Let me know if you've more questions or if I can help.

Thanks so much for your reply! I wish you a healthy happy pregnancy. I don't have any medical reasons why except it being my second d&c? Please let me know how you get on with your scan. X

HELLO WORLD

Hi @EJKIN! Thanks so much! I’ll definitely let you know how the scan goes - it’s not until the 6th of April.

I think with the D&C unless there was damage or complications (extremely extremely unlikely and they would have told you! Plus now I think the NHS actually performs ERPC which is a little gentler than a proper D&C we just still call it that) or have given you specific instructions to wait, you should be fine to start ttc. What is really important is that you feel well, both physically and emotionally. Nothing could have prepared me for how hard pregnancy after loss is, so make sure you take the time to build yourself up a bit. Much love and luck x

Hi, sorry to hear about your loss!

I had a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks in January of this year, I ended up having to have the ERPC/D&C too. The hospital told us to wait for a cycle and then start trying again.

We waited one cycle and I got my positive result a few days ago. From what I have read/heard the only reason they ask you to wait is so they can date the new pregnancy correctly x
