Pregnancy symptoms almost gone at 5 weeks

Hi, I was just looking for some advice. I'm currently 5 weeks 5 days pregnant with first baby. I had a mmc 5 years ago after doing ivf. This was a shock natural pregnancy at age 38 and very much wanted! But I'm absolutely terrified that things are going the same way, as the day after my bfp I was gagging at smells, heavy uterus and was sure this was the start of morning sickness but it went away, I don't even gag when brushing teeth (which I was initially) and smells don't bother me. I've had massive food aversions so was eating very little but my appetite has returned over the past few days. I've still got sore boobs, stuffy nose, bloating and dizziness but my last pregnancy I had the retching at smells etc at the very start but all symptoms disappeared except the boobs. I really feel like this pregnancy is going exactly the same way and I'm terrified. We've told our families and everyone is so happy and excited and I feel so miserable but don't want to say anything yet. We'll be having a scan at 7 weeks so I've a while to go still. Sorry my post is so long!

Just wanted to say that I had the exact same thing, and having had a previous MMC too I was convinced it had happened again but had a scan at 8 weeks and little one was doing great. Symptoms come and go and fluctuate all the time so as hard as it is, try not to dwell on them too much.
Wishing you all the best for a healthy pregnancy 💕

Early pregnancy symptoms come and go. I know it's difficult not to worry (I know I worried constantly!) but morning sickness doesn't usually start until week 6 or 7. Keeping everything crossed that things work out for you Flowers

SnooperTrooper12345 · 24/03/2021 08:07

Symptoms don't mean anything in regards to how your pregnancy is going.
I've never had symptoms apart from sore boobs that come and go. In all 5 of my pregnancies.
If anything, I had more symptoms in the ones that ended in miscarriage.

Symptoms come and go, or stay, or go and don't come back at all, some people get them throughout their whole pregnancy, some get none at all.
It doesn't mean anything ❤️

Hey @Saoirse82, I don't really have any concrete advice I can give as I'm in my first pregnancy (at a similar point to you, 5+1).

Everyone seems to be different and in the group chat I'm on here, a lot of people's symptoms seem to come and go. I think it's totally normal for you to worry considering what happened to you, and of course we're all looking for answers as at this stage things are so precarious and don't quite feel real!

I just wanted to offer a bit of a handhold, and I'm sure this must be a really anxious time. Not too long to go til your scan where hopefully you'll get some answers and some good news!

Saoirse82 · 24/03/2021 13:33

Thank you so much for all your replies. I'm really going to try and be more positive, its just so hard when after being through a mmc before and getting similar symptoms but it does give me comfort @carr33 that you felt the same way and all was ok with your LO. @Floryella congratulations on your pregnancy, the early weeks are so tough. Whoever says they enjoy being pregnant are mad in my view! Smile
I don't like to relay my fears to my husband because he's excited and nervous and I don't want him being maddened with worry like I am so I'm grateful to be able to come here. I appreciate all your replies and I will be sure to update after my 7 week scan because I've STALKED these threads and sometimes there are no updates and you're just desperate for a bit of positivity. Thanks ladies x

Are you sure it wouldn't help to talk to your husband? You are married - two become one and all that. It's his baby too, and it's right that he should share the emotional strain (because you'll be taking all the physical strain)! If he was nervous and anxious about something which affected you, wouldn't you want him to share?

It is hard to not worry, and I feel for you. I've experienced pregnancy loss too, and it doesn't feel as care-free as the first time. But you are going to worry all through the pregnancy, not just to the 12 week scan. And then you're going to worry about the newborn. And primary school. And high school. Maybe try to find strategies to deal with and manage the worry so it doesn't adversely impact your life. Good luck, and hope everything turns out well x

Harryo · 24/03/2021 14:37

Could you be further along than you think?

Saoirse82 · 25/03/2021 01:13

Thanks girls. @FeistySheep that's a good point you made, if my husband was anxious about something I'd want him to share it with me. Definitely not further along than what I think as periods are very regular and strangely last month I thought I was pregnant and tested but I wasn't. I've had stronger symptoms kick in in the past 24 hours, boobs even sorer and a lot of retching and gagging and absolutely no appetite at all, disgusted at the thought of food, so it looks like my symptoms have returned. Pregnancy is a roller coasters thats for sure!

Great news Saoirse :) Well, sort of great, but not so good you're feeling rubbish again! I think lots of people experience symptoms coming and going through the first trimester, so hold onto that rollercoaster Grin

ahuss · 28/03/2021 17:40

@Saoirse82 hey, I'm in the same spot as you I'm 5weeks and 1day. My symptoms have pretty much subsided expect for OJ craving, hunger and feeling headachey (which was a lot worse last week). Some days I feel like a proper sloth and can't move. And other days I have all the worlds energy. From what I've read and still am reading, it's absolutely normal. I've booked myself in for a "reassurance scan" when I'm in my 8th week just for my peace of mind. Everything crossed it goes well.

ahuss · 29/03/2021 18:05

How's everyone feeling today? I got super hungry a few hours after my massive breakfast which is really odd... but also good as it's one of my pregnancy symptoms. Also getting very very mild cramps. Other than that, I feel normal.

Saoirse82 · 30/03/2021 10:40

Most of my symptoms have gone @ahuss, thry kind of totally disappeared on fri and haven't come back. I phoned the EPU but they won't scan me without there being pain or bleeding. I have a scan booked for fri when I'll be 6 weeks and 6 days, I honestly couldn't wait any longer, I'm absolutely demented! Is this your first baby?

OP posts:
ahuss · 30/03/2021 12:14

@Saoirse82 I've also booked myself in for an early scan at 8weeks. Yes it's my first baby so I can't tell the difference between what is right or wrong and just going with the flow. Fingers crossed your scan goes well.

SnooperTrooper12345 · 30/03/2021 12:33

Unfortunately they won't scan you for loss is symptoms because it is normal. As worrying as it is
Saoirse82 · 31/03/2021 13:38

@snoopertrooper12345, Yes, I've been told it can normal but after having a mmc in my last pregnancy where the symptoms disappeared its very hard to differentiate between normal and another mmc. My last experience has taken any joy out of this pregnancy for me, I'm hoping that I'll feel differently after the first scan.
How are u feeling @ahuss? I don't have a lot in the way of symptoms except sore boobs and dizziness. I did have a lot more symptoms but they've gone and haven't come back. I feel a bit nauseous in the mornings, its super mild though and lasts for maybe half an hour or so but thats about it.

OP posts:
ahuss · 31/03/2021 13:44

@Saoirse82 I'm literally the same as you. I've got a headache today and felt super hungry a few hours after I woke up. I've had a big breakfast but I'm still hungry. Felt only very mildly nauseous, which quickly went away within like 2mins.

ahuss · 31/03/2021 13:44

@Saoirse82 My sense of smell is literally on steroids. I smell everything even things/foods I've never noticed smells of before. Have been feeling anxious today. Just want to get my first scan out of the way so I know everything is okay.

Saoirse82 · 01/04/2021 11:38

I totally understand where you're coming from, my scan is tomorrow night and I feel sick just thinking of it! I'm really really scared as this is where it all went wrong for me last time.
I've been feeling nauseous early in the morning, this morning it woke me out of my sleep but I didn't eat much yesterday so that's probably why its worse it only last a short time. Then for 2 hours afterwards I was retching a lot and thought I might throw up but didn't, I didn't actually feel nauseous just my gag reflex was so strong. I feel totally fine now though. I have a fairly strong sense of smell already but I'm a bit worried as to why its not stronger now I'm pregnant and no smells are disgusting me or anything although this morning when my gag reflex was super strong I could have probably been sick at anything. Early pregnancy is such an anxious time!

Just an update for this thread as I've read so many of them and so few people update the outcomes. Had my scan tonight and the wee heart was beating away. Delighted! So fluctuating symptoms, or mild symptoms didn't mean anything so I hope whoever reads this and is panicking about their symptoms might take a bit of comfort from that.

Wonderful news @Saoirse82 - thanks for updating. Wishing you lots of luck on your journey. Xx

JeanT81 · 02/07/2021 22:33

Just coming upon this thread as I’m at the same stage, 6 weeks 3 days and symptoms practically gone and very anxious after a previous Mc. Hoping all is still going well with your pregnancy?

Maggiesfarm · 03/07/2021 00:00

I hope all will be well Saoirse, there's no reason to suppose it won't.

I didn't have any early pregnancy symptoms except one bout of morning sickness, no nausea, just brought up clear fluid, and that was when I was about nine days over. After that, apart from growing bump from four months and babies moving at that time, no symptoms at all. It was quite blissful being pregnant.

Congratulations and good luck.

InthestarsO · 15/12/2021 13:52

@Saoirse82 thank you for this thread and for the update! I found this on one of my many searches. I'm currently 5 weeks pregnant after losing my son in June at 33 weeks. I have some mild symptoms, no nausea, just tiredness, bloating and sore boobs that come and go, and I've been panicking! I have a reassurance scan in 2 weeks, but it's nice to know I'm not the only one who feels this way 💙

Saoirse82 · 18/06/2023 22:47

Just another update since as I stumbled across this as im currently pregnany again. All was fine and my baby is now a gorgeous 19 month old. Hope this brings some comfort to anyone who is feeling anxious.
