Can midwives tell the gender at a 12 week scan

I know you can't officially find out the sex of your baby until 16 weeks onwards however I am just curious, do midwives scanning at your 12 week scan kind of know the gender by the scan but obviously don't say anything to you? Hope that makes sense lol. I've already had my 12 week scan but I am curious as she kept referring to baby as him on a few occasions, and I can't help but wonder does she know lol x

Sonographers tends to refer to babies as "he" to distinguish from mum/she. You may very well be having a boy but it's still 50/50 at the moment!

Not typically - the external gentalia and internal sex organs arent developed enough for them to know. You can usually work it out from approx 15 or 16 weeks or so

I suspect they do.... my DSis lives abroad, at both her 12 week scans she was told the gender...: both were accurate. So yes I suspect they can do.... but they would never give this away as it’s not always accurate.

Yes the gender will be clear to a good sonographer.

If the machine is good enough. I live abroad and we are told the sex at the 10 or 12 week scan.

I was always told the gender of my DC at these 11/12 week scans (at least after DC3) and they were always correct (five further DC).

All of the last five DC had that scan in the UK, not abroad.

You can find out from 10 weeks onwards with the NIPT, but that is a blood test.

Depends on how accurate and old the scanner is, and also the skill of the sonographer whether they can see just by scan alone at 12weeks. I agree, they often refer to the foetus as 'he' rather than saying 'it'. Didn't you ask at the time?

Sonographer, not midwife.
Sex, not gender.

I was told at 12 weeks-not in the UK.
