Morning everyone. If anyone can help I will appreciate. So had mc in jan and my bmi is slightly over 30. I just spoke to gp and he has prescribed the folic. He said the usual, for me to walk around, eat healthy, dont overstrain etc but I asked for my blood test (hcg, progesterone) to be tested just to make sure all is well but he said cos I've only had the 1 mc it's not recommended for now. Imagine that. So I've just booked mw and hoping she may help or maybe I should order a kit online. Not sure. Any thoughts. Thanks you 😊

Easier said than done I know, but try not to worry. As your GP said, there is no reason for you to have a blood test and no reason to think this pregnancy won't go smoothly for you. Unfortunately miscarriages are common, but usually due to the foetus not being viable rather than anything being wrong with the woman. Hopefully this time is successful for you. Try to keep busy and focus on eating/exercising/sleeping well to keep you feeling as physically and mentally well as possible.

I presume you're pregnant again now?
There isn't much use in just testing hcg ones as it doesn't show anything.
And as the doctor said, they're not interested unless you've had more 3 than miscarriages as just because you've had one, doesn't make you any more likely to have another

joanneligthelm · 22/03/2021 12:37

Hi usually that don't do investigates till after 3 miscarriages as one is considered normal although my Dr did do quantative hcg, to check levels were doubling to diagnose the pregnancy. The problem with progesterone is low progesterone might not be the cause of a failing pregancy, but be caused by it.

SnooperTrooper12345 · 22/03/2021 12:43

As PP said too, miscarriages aren't always (usually) down to the women or something wrong with the woman. They are unfortunately very common and a lot of the time is something wrong with the foetus

@SnooperTrooper12345 @MGee123 @joanneligthelm thanks so much. As you guys and my gp have said I will try to remain positive and pray for the best. Hopefully this baby will go full term. Tbf I didnt take vits till late as I didnt no I was preganant until about 6 weeks or so and didnt get the best of things 🙈 so now I started vit before I fell pregnant and I'm eating more healthy. Just a bit anxious 🙏😊

It's totally understandable you're anxious. Definitely don't worry about the vitamins - they won't have an effect on the pregnancy being successful or not. Some people find out far later you. 🤞 for you.

I’ve had 2 losses and also have pcos, and managed to get seen by a gynaecologist for recurrent mc (over the phone) thanks to my nhs fertility specialist (who I was originally with to get clomid but kept getting pregnant naturally!)

While I was waiting for that appointment I got pregnant for the third time so I went to a private specialist who prescribed me progesterone over a zoom consultation as it can’t hurt but might help. It was super expensive but luckily I only had to pay for a few weeks worth, then I had my appointment with the nhs gynaecologist and she agreed to do a prescription for the rest. I am also on aspirin as it can’t hurt and might help.

So if you can afford it, going private may be an option for you if you want to pursue the progesterone xxx

He's protecting you also from covid.. No need to go to a contagious hospital in the early stages if it's not absolutely necessary... Anyway there would be bigging they can do if the results were low unfortunately Flowers

WisteriaSuperior · 22/03/2021 14:53

Bigging = nothing

Redskyyy · 22/03/2021 14:59

I was super anxious and had hcg and progesterone tested privately because I’d had low progesterone and failed iui cycles. Not sure where you are but The Path Lab did mine.

Just also wanted to say, try not to worry about getting it done too much. My hcg levels were checked 3 times between 4 and 6 weeks and I still miscarried just before 10 weeks

@SnooperTrooper12345 so sorry to.hear that. Did they find the issue. If the progesterone was low couldnt they have given you a pill to help. So sorry again. Had mines at 11 was the painful thing ever physically and emotionally 🥰🥰

No, it was probably just one of those things.
Progesterone levels were fine too.
Unfortunately it just happens sometimes 🤷🏼‍♀️
Most people never know the reason for it.

I've had 2 children since then and currently 38 weeks with my 3rd.

@SnooperTrooper12345 so happy for u. I pray this baby will go full term 🥰🥰
