Early scan pregnancy dates. So confused please help

I know all my dates but according to my early scans I’m way out.
My last period was 16.1.21 my ovulation date was the 1.2.21 but the EPU told me today I’m 5/6 weeks. Saw a gestation sac, yolk sac and today an embryo have to go back next week for another scan so see heartbeat.
So so confused

Had pretty much the same thing yesterday, LMP 21st Jan ovulation around the 8th. Going by LMP I am 8 weeks today but at a scan at EPU (due to spotting) was told I can't be more than 6 weeks as yolk sac can be seen but no embryo. Have to go back in 10 days for another scan. I could believe being a week behind but struggling to understand how I could be 2 weeks.

@Cellwen very confusing! Trying to stay away from google but easier said than done x

Dating early pregnancy is so hit and miss. Even if you know your ovulation, you don't know when it implanted.

Plus, this early the baby is the size of a poppy seed, that is really hard to see in your body.

Try not to worry and see what the next scan shows

@Twizbe thank you, I'm just so anxious this is my 7th pregnancy only one of which was successful. I've had this happen before which ended in miscarriage last July so trying my best not to compare but it's so hard. If I had any symptoms it would help but I don't

I went for a scan and was told I was just 5 weeks (only a sac visible), possibly only 4. Went back 2 weeks later and there was baby with a heartbeat measuring nearly 8 weeks Early scans are so random - I apparently progressed 3 weeks in 2! Hopefully it will all work out ok for you!

@ArcticSky thank you, it’s very reassuring to hear positive stories I haven’t had much luck with my pregnancies the last year so am desperate for some good news xx
