Pregnant so soon after chemical?

Hi everyone.

Quick background. I first had a positive pregnancy test on 19th Feb (an extremely faint line, I had to squint to see it). Over the next few days the line became even fainter and on 24th Feb I started 3 days of bleeding with pretty horrible clots. I assumed this was a chemical pregnancy/very early miscarriage and after my bleeding stopped I took another test and it was a definite negative, absolutely nothing that could even be slightly mistaken for a line.

Anyway after a few days of feeling sorry for myself, I had put it behind me. Then on Mar 14th I was noticing the need to pee a lot more than usual. This continued and on Mar 15th I took a pregnancy test just to convince myself I wasn't pregnant but this time there was a definite line! Faint but definitely there (I have attached a photo)

Afger that, exhaustion hit me out of nowhere and I have been struggling to keep my eyes open past 2pm without a nap and the l'm calling asleep by 10pm which is very unlike me. I took another test this morning (18th March) and the there is no doubting a strong second line is there (photo attached)Shock

I don't want to get excited if this is just my hormones playing up but could I already be pregnant? Or could the previous passing of clots have not been a miscarriage?Hmm

I would really appreciate any thoughts if anyone has gone through the same thing xx

Imo more likely previous passing wasn't a miscarriage. Pregnancy symptoms don't usually turn up until around week 6 or 7, if you got pregnant after the chemical it would only just have implanted? Not an expert tho...
IME, I had a chemical in Feb 2020, got pregnant in next cycle early march. Positive Pregnancy test around 23 March and symptoms didn't turn up until early-mid April.

Thank you for taking the time to reply! I've found the whole experience very strange! If the previous passing of clots wasn't a miscarriage should I be concerned? Because those were some very large clots and a lot of blood (albeit for only 3 days whereas my period lasts 6/7days with no clots at all). I've explained it all to my doctor who says I can't be seen by the midwife for a few weeks beause they are assuming the previous passing as a miscarriage and want to wait until I would be 6 weeks with this "new pregnancy"

I had no bleeding at all when I was pregnant woth mh daughter so this is all very new!

I’ve never had a chemical, so can’t help with that. But with both my pregnancies I had symptoms fairly early - before my period was due. In both cases it was a huge tiredness, very vivid, strange dreams and nighttime wake-ups where I struggled to get back to sleep (all not normal for me). I took a pregnancy test last week because I was utterly exhausted for two days in a row and it was positive. I’ve only ever experienced that type of exhaustion once before, while pregnant the first time. I had a fairly hard first trimester the first time - severe all-day sickness etc - so perhaps some women’s bodies are a bit more sensitive to the hormonal changes than others.

Could you ring the early pregnancy unit at your nearest hospital. They might be more helpful than the GP?

MamaA8146 · 18/03/2021 10:16

Congratulations on your lovely news, I hope everything goes brilliantly for you! I didnt even think to call the hospital so I'll definitely try to get a hold of them, thank you x

I think if it was me, I'd probably wait and see what this pregnancy does. If you have no pain and bleeding gone then whatever it was has passed. Can you book an early private scan (from 8 weeks is best)?
My total laypersons hunch would be maybe you miscarried a twin egg and a second kept going... or it is a new pregnancy and your symptoms are just starting super early. Every woman is different.

Chelyanne · 18/03/2021 12:45

As you had a definite negative after your bleed I would think that could well have been a chemical. As you've had an extremely faint positive then a clear positive a few days later I think it's more likely to be a new pregnancy. Only a scan will be able to confirm it but congratulations.

I got my bfp 4 weeks 2 days after a chemical, baby measured 4 days ahead of lmp at my dating scan so I must have ovulated a little earlier in my cycle. I did do a test a week earlier that I discarded as I couldn't see a line in the 1st few minutes, I did notice that same test had 2 clear lines on when emptying the bin though. Tests these days are so sensitive that you get very early positives, when I had our eldest they didn't pick it up until af was 2 weeks late.

I had an early miscarriage last year and became pregnant on my next cycle. The two week old in my arms is the result of that pregnancy 🥰
Wishing you the very best of luck. Look after yourself.

MamaA8146 · 18/03/2021 16:00

I hope you're right😭 And congratulations, lovely news about your bfp🥰

@MamaA8146 IMO it could well be a new pregnancy. I've recently had an almost identical experience. I had a postive test on the 15th January, tests were getting lighter every day and then bled for 3 days starting on 21st jan. On the 25th jan my test was a stark white BFN.
I track my ovulation and I ovulated again on the 7th feb, I then got another BFP on the 16th feb. Tests were getting darker everyday and even got a dye stealer at 15dpo. I've had a scan since and saw the heartbeat at 6+4, so confirmed it was definitely a new pregnancy. Il be 8 weeks on Sunday 😊. Maybe get a digital weeks test and see what that says? People say they're not 100% accurate but for me I got the 1-2, 2-3 and 3+ on the dates I should have. Wishing you all the best xx

MamaA8146 · 18/03/2021 17:59

@lockdownbabyx this is so reassuring to hear and a huge congratulations on your wonderful news, I hope everything goes smoothly for you from here on ❤ I have actually taken a digital test which said 1-2 weeks today so I'll try one of those again next week to see what comes up xx

What's the latest @MamaA8146 ?

I am currently going through a chemical so interested to know

Thanks x

notveryrelaxed · 07/04/2021 18:21

I had a chemical pregnancy and the very next month I got a positive - am now 21 weeks pregnant! So very much possible, I read that it could make you more fertile the next month so not uncommon.

MamaA8146 · 07/04/2021 18:30

@hollieannmayx I'm still testing positive and been having tons of pregnancy symptoms- nausea, painful boobs and no sign of any period last month so I'm very sure this is a vaible pregnancy. Whether or not its a new one following my chemical or the twin theory as has been suggested, I'm not sure. But I have now been booked in with the midwives for my booking appt and hoping to have a private scan this weekend to ease my mind x

So sorry to hear of you chemical, all my prayers are with you x

Thank you @MamaA8146, it's been tough but this site has definitely helped being able to connect with others that have experienced it. I am so glad you are doing well and how exciting that you get to hopefully get some definite answers so soon xx

MamaA8146 · 10/04/2021 21:50

Just thought I'd update, I had a private scan today and am 6weeks 5days so seems I conceived very quickly after the chemical xx

Puppymamababymama · 12/04/2021 17:35

Just found this post and it gives me much hope. Had 2 positive FRERS last Thursday and a positive CBD on Friday but started bleeding. This morning got a very faint on FRER and negative on CBD. Thinking it's a chemical but hoping the bleeding finishes up soon so I can try again this cycle. Wish me luck ladies 💕 and good luck to all of you ☺️

charlotte0808 · 12/04/2021 18:19

I've had 2 chemicals one in January and got pregnant 2 weeks later in February but lost that one too. Pregnant again but don't think it's looking too good either

MamaA8146 · 12/04/2021 18:35

@Puppymamababymama Wishing you all the luck in the world!
