20w scan results; heart

So I had my 20 week scan yesterday, the sonographer spent a lot of time looking at baby’s heart. She made me have a wee, go for a walk and wiggly my belly because she said she couldn’t see a part of the heart because of the way baby was lay. I have to go back for another scan but on my notes she has written... ‘Anaomaly scan incomplete due to feral prone position. A repeat anomaly will be arranged to assess; cardiac outflow tracts. An ultrasound scan can not exclude all feral abnormalities’ ..... so does this mean there could be a problem with her heart? Has anyone else had this before?

@Mommabear88 I may be wrong, but to me it just sounds like they couldn't get a proper look because of baby's position, and so couldn't rule out an anomaly due to not being able to see properly. I wouldn't worry too much, has your repeat scan been booked?

Cafeaulait27 · 17/03/2021 11:03

It sounds to me like they just couldn’t see because of the position. I would call them though to make sure! Xxx

No. It just means they couldn’t see properly so they can’t say it was normal. That doesn’t mean it was abnormal! Just needs a repeat when the baby is in a different position

It means they could completely asses the heart due the baby’s position so you will be need to be rescanned.

I’m pretty sure all scan reports say the last line.

Couldn’t*

I had the same - the sonographer was able to check everything but the heart due to the way the baby was positioned. I literally tried everything - jumping up and down, walking, a fizzy drink and wiggling my hips whilst on the bed in the hospital to get them to move and they wouldn’t! Had to go back a week later for a repeat scan where luckily they could check the heart!

I was totally panicked for the whole week in between worrying that was something wrong with my baby - and the way you feel is normal! However please try to remember that baby is just being awkward and when you have your repeat scan you’ll get the reassurance you need xx

I had to have repeats of both my 12 and 20 week scans as baby was in the wrong position to get a look at what was needed, which sounds like what has happened to you.
Shes now a lovely healthy 16 month old.

I am just waiting for my appointment to come through now. I didn’t want to find out if baby had Downs, Edwards or pataus so obviously I’m worrying it’s something. Thank you everyone you’ve really put my mind at rest. Fingers crossed she is ok and she’s just being an awkward little princess 😌 xxx

It just means they couldn’t see properly so they have to say that they can’t rule out there being an issue. I had the exact same thing. Baby was being extremely awkward but I went back a week later and they were able to see everything they needed to, with no issues found. Try not to worry!
