Hypnobirthing - resources/how to take seriously

I'd be interested to know how people got on with hynobirthing, learning about it etc. I'm just starting and have purchased The Positive Birth Company book. However, I just cannot get into it and find the whole thing a bit cringey.

I have a job that requires very rational thinking and the first chapter on science, I was able to read without much issue but the rest I'm really struggling to get through.

I'd be really intersted to hear how people changed their mindset/got into hypnobirthing. I'm trying to force myself to read becuase 'it will make my birth easier' but even that doesn't seem to be enough motivation to stick with it.

Would the video course be better for you than the book? She's not too airy fairy hippy if that's your fear. I found lots of the bits about what your body does in labour interesting, it's more than that anything too woo woo. My incredibly practical husband was fine with it. No need to force yourself into it if its not your thing though

I'd love to know this too as I tried the video course and gave up on it, it just wasn't for me but there's so many people who rave about it! I'm likely to not have a straightforward birth due to my physical disabilities, but hoping to be as natural as is safe and would like hypnobirthing to be a part of my "birth toolkit" at least. I find the "ignore anything that might go wrong, just focus on the perfect birth" unhelpful and just adds to the pressure I have (mostly due to my own circumstances).
