Gush of blood- then nothing! (6+6 weeks)

Hi guys- I’m 6+6 weeks, first pregnancy!

A few hours ago I felt the need to go to the toilet and had the most almighty gush of bright red blood with what felt like a lump of something drop out followed by blood & clots on the paper for about 3 wipes. Not accompanied by any pain whatsoever. I popped a pad on and gave 111 a call.

Since then, I have only had blood when wiping, nothing on my pads and still absolutely no pain.

On-call doctor said to give my GP a call in the morning for a referral to the EPU which I know is standard practise- we have a private scan booked for Saturday so even if it takes a while to get a scan at the EPU then we’ll know for sure what’s going on by then. He also said that bleeding is common and not always a sign of miscarriage and the fact I have no pain and that it’s slowed down significantly is a positive sign.

Has anybody else experienced such a weird thing? What was the outcome? Should I expect more bleeding and some pain soon?I’m trying to be as calm as possible and have settled it with myself that it’s a MC and any other outcome will be a bonus.

@zaraa123 hugs to you. I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks but it was gradual and heavy over a few days. Your description does read like one but I hope it isn't and you get a good outcome.xxx

Not 6 weeks but what we though was 10 weeks , (turned on on the scan to only be 8 weeks along) I had bleed a little on the Saturday just spotting and had cramps , called hospital they said nothing to worry about on the follow wed I went to bed in the afternoon while I was laying there a felt a woosh like I had just peed myself looked down and it there was blood every where I was soaked I got taken to hospital and scanned the could see baby’s heart beat kept my in over night because of how much blood that came away scanned the next morning baby’s heart was still beating nothing more came of it I’m now 27 weeks pregnant , I’m hoping it was the same thing I had sending you hugs

I had exactly this, a massive gush of blood - much more than a period and very red. I think it was at more like 8 weeks. Very scary but all fine thankfully, ds is now 6. The GP told me at the time that no cramps were a good sign.
I've had miscarriages too so know both sides of the coin, but my miscarriages were quite different to this. Fingers crossed for you.

I bled for 6 weeks straight from around 8 weeks I think it was. Sometimes it was just a bit of blood when wiping, other times it was like someone turned on a tap (sorry for tmi). I also passed a clot around the size of my palm. I also experienced bright red fresh blood and old brown blood. Whenever I had a heavy bleed, I went to EPU for a scan. This was just before lockdown though, as my 12 week scan was a few days before the first lockdown. Each time they found a heartbeat and checked my cervix which was closed. They could see bruising during an earlier scan and said that it should 'bleed out' or my body would absorb it.

I did have cramps, but I think these were general pregnancy cramps caused by changes in the body.

My boy is 5.5 months now, totally healthy. The consultant actually commented on how she could see evidence of the bleed on the placenta after delivery, which was kind of interesting!

I hope everything goes well for you t your scan.

@zaraa123 thanks so much. I forgot to add that I am currently 28 weeks pregnant, got pregnant a few weeks later. It is great to hear people's positive stories and I hope yours is one of them.xxx

zaraa123 · 11/03/2021 11:26

@Mishmased congratulations! I’ve moved my private scan up to today so whatever has happened I’ll know this afternoon then can settle it with myself rather than it being dragged out. Expecting the worst, hoping for the best❤️

Exactly this several times in two successful pregnancies.

beckylovescats · 11/03/2021 11:31

Good luck OP. I had a lot of very heavy bleeding throughout my pregnancy. Massive clots really scary. They found I had a large cervical polyp which gets a bigger blood supply during pregnancy. My pregnancy was fine other than that and I now have a 9 month old baby boy. Fingers are crossed for you. X

Mishmased · 11/03/2021 13:06

@zaraa123 wishing you the best your scan.xxx

zaraa123 · 11/03/2021 16:31

just a little update- was great news. sonographer could see the little bean straight away with a strong heartbeat! i could’ve actually kissed her. and i’m measuring a week ahead of what i expected!

diagnosed a subchorionic hematoma which was the cause of the bleeding- it’s more common than thought apparently. hopefully it’s plain sailing from here❤️

@zaraa123 that's super. I was diagnosed with sub chorionic hematoma in this pregnancy as I bled from 4 weeks until 9 weeks and by 12 week scan it was gone. Super delighted for you ❤️❤️❤️. A combination of baby brain and working night shift and I forgot about my own similar diagnosis just a few months ago. Many congratulations.xxx

Babyjune21 · 11/03/2021 22:43

Op great news very happy for you and you little peanut Grin Flowers

Applesandpears23 · 11/03/2021 22:50

I bled, less than a pad full but quite suddenly at about 11 weeks. The ‘baby’ is turning 7 tomorrow. I hope it turns out ok for you too.
