Baby measured at 7+1week when I thought 8+5

Hey all, hope your well

Yesterday I went for a private early scan, just to make sure everything was in the right place etc

Too find that the sonographer said I'm measuring 10 days earlier than I thought I was, but it seems impossible? As from the day of my last period i would be 8+5 weeks, and I also had a hgc hormone blood test at the gp that he said was about right for 5 weeks pregnancy, that was 3 weeks and 3 days ago.

I was meant to be reassured and now I'm just worried. I did see the heart beat and the little baby blob which was wonderful but I've been left wondering if the baby isn't measuring right.

Is this okay?

Thanks for your help

Ovulation can be later some months then others and hormone levels can vary from woman to woman. It could all be fine. You'll get your proper due date at the twelve week dating scan, I'm afraid all you can really do at the moment is wait and see.

imsoinmyhead · 08/03/2021 08:13

I'm afraid it didn't end well for me. When I was measuring behind the sonographer said it could go either way.

However you may have ovulated later or maybe your dates are wrong?

Hope all turns out well for you

I measured 7 days behind at a scan at what I thought was 8 weeks. It really panicked me, as I have had this in the past and it didn't end well. My OB didn't seem bothered at all as she said at this stage, just being out by a mm or two, could make all the difference.

When I went for my next appointment two weeks later, I had then jumped a week ahead, and my 'official' due date from my 12 week scan is now bang on what I very first worked it out to be the day I got my BFP.

I guess what I'm trying to say is yes, it could go either way, but I'm an example of how it wasn't anything to worry about. Try and stay away from Google as well (easier said than done I know) but I tied myself in knots reading so much about it.

I'm 10 days behind from what my LMP says I should be but I was tracking ovulation so I know I ovulated really late the month we conceived.

I'm now 13 weeks and everything is fine so it can be entirely normal.

Thanks for all the replies!
I only know my last period date, that is definitely correct, not entirely sure about ovulation as wasn't tracking, but I recieved the positive pregnancy test on 3rd Jan. (1-2 weeks on CB digi) at that point.

I'm just keeping my fingers crossed and hoping all will be fine.

I've attached scan photo

Both of mine measured behind my lmp dates. I just assume I ovulate late. 7 days behind at a 6 week scan and all fine now.

Freezeboy · 08/03/2021 09:22

I measured behind by 5 days at an early scan but then measure 6 days ahead by my 12 week scan. I’m sure they measure at the 12 week scan and not any earlier due to the variation before that point as it’s not reliable. For now try not to worry (easier said than done)

Did you mean to say that your positive test was 3rd January? Or did you mean 3rd February?

I got my positive at 8dpo on 11th January and I’m 12 weeks, so if you tested positive earlier than that at the very least I’d have expected you to be at least 9 weeks by now as it’s 9 weeks since 3rd jan.

If you meant 3rd feb then I wouldn’t worry at all.

The main thing is you’ve seen a heartbeat. Try not to worry. Xx

Trustynickname · 08/03/2021 11:57

Sorry, yes I meant 3rd Feb! Baby brain as they say!

Thank you

And thanks all others for the comments it's such a relief to hear some positive experiences. The sonographer didnt seem worried at all he just guessed that my dates were wrong as the heart beat was there. Still makes me a little worried but fingers crossed

Well if you got a BFP on 3rd February, in theory that could have been at 8dpo at the earliest on a digi, so that would mean you ovulated 26th January. In that scenario you'd be 7+5 today. Your private sonographer puts you at 7+2 today, and that seems well within ordinary baby size variation to me. I'm guessing they always date you assuming your baby is bang on average, but there's obviously a good variation in size at all stages of pregnancy.
The range of HCG is absolutely flipping enormous at 5 weeks, so really that doesn't tell you much. I guess your GP just meant that your HCG was right for 5 weeks, but didn't say that it would also be perfectly fine to get that level at different stages too. Unless you know what the HCG level was? You could then look it up and see what the date range is that it's possible to have that HCG level in.

Update for any ladies searching this, I'm now 22 weeks pregnant and all is fine. Daffodil
