I would be so grateful for some reassuring (or warning) words from ladies who have gone through the anxiety caused by Clearblue weeks indicator tests..

My LMP was 28 January. I know I ovulated around 9 or 10 February from OPKs and other signs, plus I have clockwork 28 day cycles. I got a BFP on 21 February (so 12 DPO). Yay Smile Another BFP on 28 February (19 DPO). Today (25 DPO and 5 weeks 3 days PG according to LMP) I took a CB weeks indicator test and only got 1-2 weeks Sad. At 5 weeks+ PG I should at least be getting 2-3 weeks on a CB test shouldn't I? I do drink a lot of water so am usually pretty hydrated, but it was FMU.

I absolutely know that I can't have ovulated and conceived a week after I think, because we didn't DTD then (knackered from the fertile week!). Plus I got the BFP at 12 DPO, so I know I had implanted by then.

Please can you help? I know from other posts people say not to rely on these tests, but they mainly seem to be responding to people worried about not getting 3 weeks+. I haven't even got 2-3 weeks!

This would be my first baby. I'm so scared of an ectopic happening out of nowhere and missing the warning signs.

Did anyone else get 1-2 weeks on a CB test around 5 weeks+ and go on to have a healthy pregnancy? I don't have my first appt with the midwife until early April - 9.5 weeks, which is only a virtual appointment, with a blood test the following week. How on earth do I find out if anything is wrong in the meantime?

Thank you so much in advance. xx

Hello honey, I can’t comment too much because I don’t know if this is a healthy pregnancy yet, but just wanted to let you know I’m in a similar boat. 5+2 today and still rather faint tests. I know from previous pregnancies how dark the line needs to be for 3+ and I’m no where near. I’d imagine I’d get 1-2 weeks aswell.

Every time I google, everything seems to suggest that the strength of the line doesn’t matter, so long as there is progress. Are you seeing progress on regular tests in terms of the strength of the line?

Test progression means very little. Positive is positive so just be happy with there being a line and hope it sticks.

You could have private viability scans but they are not always reassuring. I had one at 8+3 with my last which confirmed a hb then I mc at 9+3. You see so many on here where they are measuring far behind dates and end up more worried than before too.

I would honestly stop testing, as pp said, a positive as a positive. Pregnancy tests aren't used to date pregnancies. I know the early days are stressful but take it a day at a time. If you've got no bleeding or excessive cramping just assume all is well. I did one pregnancy test to confirm my pregnancy, I actually found the fact my period wasn't arriving as more encouraging than the strength of a pregnancy test.

Thanks all, really appreciate the quick and reassuring responses! Having now done a bit more research (googling) (as well as making myself do other things for a few hours!), I'm feeling a bit calmer. Basically I've concluded that Clearblue are criminals for selling these tests!

Looking at this HCG range chart I found (shrewdmommy.com/hcg-levels-at-5-weeks/), it's clear the possible "normal" range for someone at 5 weeks is huge. For example, you could have HCG at 130, which falls into the normal range for both the 3-4 weeks and 4-5 weeks pregnant category (or 1-2 or 2-3 using CB's weeks indicator). And then just three days later, if it doubles every 48 hours, you could be within the normal 5-6 week range!

So Clearblue are super evil for stealing our money and creating so much unnecessary anxiety. The reality is I could have low HCG because of something sad and scary like a MC or ectopic, or things could be completely normal.

As you ladies say, I'll put the tests away and try to just focus on the positives of the positive result!

I'm so sorry for your MC @Chelyanne and I hope you now have your rainbow baby/ are feeling positive TTC or otherwise happy! Thank you for the tip re early scan not always being reassuring. It's very tempting, but I don't think I would want to see it too early and make it real for myself, if there was still a real risk of a loss.

Yes @Rosieposy89, the absence of a period everyday is reassuring. Thanks for your advice!

Hope all that is some help for you too @Enwi ! Best of luck for a happy and healthy pregnancy - let me know how you get on :)

@Lowkeyloopy thank you, I got my BFP 5 mth after that mc. I'm 16+4wk pregnant now and had a private scan today which showed we've got an active little girl growing well. So very happy.

I wish you the best of luck with your pregnancy, I hope it sticks for you Smile and you see a lovely active baby when you get to your dating scan.

Hi, my tests were so faint for ages in this pregnancy that I was convinced something was wrong. They got stronger and then went faint again. Clearblue only showed 3+ when I was past 8 weeks. Im 13+1 now and baby is perfectly happy and exactly where they should be. They actually pushed my due date back by 2 days at the scan!

I spent so much time being so anxious in those first few weeks and it was for nothing. Please, please put the tests down. You have a positive. No more tests! If I could go back in time and give myself this advice, I would!xx

Not sure if this helps but usually an ectopic is associated with very high levels of HCG. So if that’s what you’re worried about it seems unlikely because from the tests it sounds like your HCG is at the lower end of the scale hence the 1-2 weeks.

But yea you’re right in that the tests aren’t very accurate at all. With my first pregnancy it said 1-2 weeks when I first tested and then I did it again about 5 days later and it was the same. That pregnancy resulted in my DD. With my second I got 1-2 weeks at first and then a couple of days later I got 3 weeks but I started getting spotting and blood tests showed that my HCG was increasing but not fast enough. That one ended in a MC. So I really wouldn’t read too much into it OP! Good luck x
