Inconclusive Harmony Test

Has this happened to anyone else & then they got a good result? I'm so upset with the whole thing. I did the test for peace of mind and now I think all it has done is cause me more stress. By the time the results come at this stage I'll be so far along that I will be continuing as normal anyways. I wouldn't bother with the test if doing things over again. Have read that inconclusive can mean T13 or T18. Please tell me happy stories, beyond stressed

Great news Smile

That’s fab news @Newmum110 you must feel like a weights been lifted.

I had my test last Wednesday so awaiting results. I’m terrified to say the least! X

Brunt0n · 15/03/2021 14:28

That’s unusual that they couldn’t tell you the sex? Strange. There either is male DNA in the sample or there’s not 😕

Newmum110 · 15/03/2021 14:42

@Brunt0n I honestly haven't a clue. I suppose I was so relieved with everything else I just didn't question it.

@Moominmiss I know how you feel, I did so much googling after my first test. I hope all goes well for you but remember (easy for me to say now) the risk of a bad result is very very low so try not stress too much.

I would be questioning that to be honest! A decent clinic should be able to explain to you why a sex result wasn't possible

Hope no one minds me jumping on the thread. I’m due to have the Harmony test on Wednesday at 10+1 and am panicking now that it’s too early. I wonder if I should have waited a bit but the whole point of having it was to get results as early as possible. Has anyone had enough fetal DNA at this gestation and not needed a repeat?

Newmum110 · 15/03/2021 14:54

@Brunt0n I'm meeting my consultant soon so will ask them & then go back to the doctor afterwards. Not impressed by the doctor at all at this stage. Despite knowing how stressed etc I was they had the results since last week & didn't make contact Angry.

Oh also, I’m taking aspirin, I wonder if I should stop??
I’ll start a new post, sorry!

Newmum110 · 15/03/2021 14:56

@Peacefulspirit my issue was a high BMI so you could be fine. The whole point is early reassurance which unfortunately I didn't get but I think it's fine for most people

Thanks for this thread ladies. I'm 37, bmi of at least 30, first pregnancy via iui. My ob called me this morning with my 2nd inconclusive harmony results. In am effort to torture myself, I took to gppgle and learned about the incr risks of abnormalities. Hadn't known this before. Had blood draws at 11+4 and 12+6. So dissapointing not to hear all is well and get the gender esp when I'm still feeling so sick. Flat as a pancake today, didn't even go to work, just sitting around worrying and driving myself mad with possibilities. Next scan not til 16 weeks (14 and 5 now :(. Never thought it could be this stressful xx

Moominmiss · 06/10/2021 16:28

@Limkanon I was 38 and had a bmi do 30 when I had my harmony test done. I also received an inconclusive result.

After googling and doing some research, I came across the SAFE nipt test. Where the harmony and other nipt tests require 4% of Fetal free dna in your blood sample, the SAFE test only requires 2%. Which means it’s the recommended nipt test for women with a higher bmi.

I opted to pay again and have the SAFE nipt carried out at the birth company on Harley street in london.

It was fab. Best experience ever and the best money we spent.

I had the results through exactly 7 days later, all perfect. 1:100,000 for all trisomies.

My baby was born nearly 5 weeks ago and is perfect.

Would highly recommend the SAFE nipt if you can afford it. The peace of mind I got from it was invaluable.
