Experiences with low fundal height (SFH) measurement at 25 weeks?

I've been referred for a growth scan next week as my fundal height (SFH) is measuring low. This is my first pregancy.

I wasn't expecting a massive baby (me and my partner were both pretty tiny when we were born, and still are tbh lol), but what are some potential outcomes of the growth scan next based on other people's experiences with this?

Fundal height measurements are massively outdated but the only thing they can go by without sending everyone for growth scans.
99% of the time, after a growth scan, it will show that baby is growing fine.

Also, your size as a baby doesn't make much difference. I wish it did 😂
I was 6lb 2 when born at 41 weeks, my partner was 7lbs at 40 weeks.
My babies have all been over 10lbs 😂

@SnooperTrooper12345 Thank you so much for the reasurance. omg I never knew that about maternal birth weight and baby birth weight, the idea we might be in for a whopper hadn't even crossed my mind!

Will update with what I discover when I go for my scan early next week :)

My bump measured on the 10th percentile (no growth scans) and she was born at 38+6 and 6lb13 on the 60th percentile for my chart

SkyBlue20 · 27/02/2021 09:41

I measured on the 10th centile at my first couple of measurements. Went for a growth scan a few weeks later as a result of reduced movements and baby was measuring 50th centile. Bump caught up not long after and has measured 50th centile since. Ironically I have another growth scan today (38 weeks) as my bump had grown ever so slightly too much at my last appointment. So yeah, bump size doesn’t always have much bearing on baby size - turns out my little lady was just packed in there!
Good luck with it and try not to worry too much xx

@Superscientist Thank you so much for sharing, hopefully this (very active) little one has a similar happy ending Grin

Thank you @SkyBlue20, I didn't realise that measurements (of bump and on the scan) could change so much from week to week. Good luck with the last few weeks of your pregnancy!

Hey everyone!

I had this at my last appointment.... measuring just on the 10th centile on my own growth chart... I was measuring 27 at 28 weeks.... I went by chance a week later anyway for a 4d scan and I got the consultant
To measure baby and he plotted it on my personalised growth chart and she was showing almost at the 50th centile!
I have my 31 week app on Tuesday (I'll be 30+3) and I'm wondering how much my midwife will take the private scan into consideration.... Iv done an approx measurement myself from pubic bone to top
Of uterus and still seems to only be 28/29cm and when Iv looked at this on my chart it's dropped below the 10th.

Hopefully my midwife will take the private measurements into consideration, not sure they will.... Hopefully won't have to go for anymore scans but I never believe be the fundal
Height to be at all accurate.
Have to see what Tuesday brings x

Hi @3rdtimemomma, sadly can't shed much light on the private scan situation but Tuesday is also the day I have my growth scan, so fingers crossed for both of us 🤞

Scan update: baby is (internally) measuring very average for gestation! Not terrifyingly small at all. Fluids and placental bloodflow all fine as well, phew. The gap between the from fundal height and the scan measurement is about 35 percentile points!

@3rdtimemomma how did you get on at your 31 week appointment?

@scrambledeggy that's great!
I measured 29cm for fundal height at 30+3 but on my growth chart it's a steady incline and above 10th centile so midwife was happy with that.
She also said the baby's head is moving into the pelvis now so I'm sure as the weeks go on aswel and the lower baby engages the fundal height May not be so accurate. X

3rdtimemomma · 02/03/2021 19:15

The private scan I had 2 weeks ago plotted baby at just below the 50th, I think the actual scan measurements are more accurate than the fundal height but also you hear of even these not being exactly on point.
I'm not worried now, I mean everyone carries so different! It is scary though throughout pregnancy, any little thing that puts seeds of doubt in our mind! X

scrambledeggy · 03/03/2021 07:50

@3rdtimemomma sounds like the midwife was really careful and considerate, that must be a relief! My sonographer said the same thing to me about fundal height measurements, as long as they're increasing steadily they don't worry too much.

I think what made me so worried was the fact that the (few) people I've been able to see over the past few months have told me that I don't look that pregnant ,which really gave me the heebie-jeebies, but you're so right, everyone does just carry different!
