I have always experienced hair loss in pregnancy.
Twice now it's been the actual reason I've considered taking a pregnancy test!

I've noticed my hair become limp and fall out a lot at around 15w. Had my bloods taken and thyroid, b12 and iron levels were fine so not sure why it happening.
I'm hoping it's temporary.

Yea, I lost a bit more hair than usual in the shower in early pregnancy.

Hair grows through cycles of growing and falling out. Maybe pregnancy accelerates the whole lot?

Yeah this is what I've always heard. People talking about how thick and nice their hair is during pregnancy and the only thing mine does is fall out!

I should also add that all my levels are normal. So nothing to do with any of that
I'm 34 weeks now and it still falls out in clumps

Markygirl1995 · 25/02/2021 10:15

@SnooperTrooper12345 how crazy well the midwife had no reason to be so inconsiderate on the phone nevertheless no reassurance there at all so I'm going to choose the other hospital they seemed much kinder xx

Ask for them to check your iron levels. Mine were very low with my dd and I started iron tablets which reduced the hair fall out.

Markygirl1995 · 25/02/2021 11:12

@Sceptre86 waiting to hear back from gp will mention my iron levels with them and see if they can let me have a blood test to check. Everyone's saying they had it from carrying a girl I wonder if that's what happens when carrying a girl??

I’m 7+2 and my hair is falling out horrendously when I shower at the moment. It looks really shiny and healthy (Particularly given that it hasn’t been cut since October!) but I’m having to unclog the plug halfway through showering! I’ve heard of ladies losing hair lots during pregnancy so I think this is quite normal. Going to ask my midwife about iron levels when I have my booking appointment as have also felt incredibly tired too.

Markygirl1995 · 25/02/2021 12:13

Doctors said because I'm so early she thinks just to leave it and carry on as normal x

My hair started falling out rapidly in the second trimester. I had a blood test and was anaemic - iron tablets sorted it. I was also very stressed at work and now I am not. Hair stopped falling out about 2 weeks after taking iron tablets.

BlueberryPancake21 · 25/02/2021 15:38

I've had hair loss in all 3 of my PG in 1st trimester (2MC, now 34wks). I think some people just react differently to pregnancy hormones. I've never had low iron, or at least not at the same time as the hair loss. Sadly the hair I lose is always the brown hair - 3 pregnancies in 18 months has made me noticeably more gray Shock

Hi there I’m just wondering what the outcome of your situation was. I’m in a similar situation. I’m 28 weeks and losing so much hair it’s frightening! Did your hair loss slow down? Stop? Or continue? Did you shed hair after the pregnancy also? Did your hair grow back? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Smile
