Early scan at 5+6 or earlier

Has anyone had a scan at this early stage and been able to successfully see the baby / pick up a heartbeat? Or not been able to, but turned out OK?

I have an EPU scan tomorrow at 5+6 (although not convinced on dates so potentially even a few days earlier than that) after an ultrasound in A&E unsurprisingly showed nothing on Sunday at 5+2.

I'm trying to set my expectations as to whether I'll definitely get an answer tomorrow either way or if there is potentially more waiting ahead.

I couldn't see a heartbeat until I was 6+2.
Sorry I can't be much more help

That's very early, I've had them at 6+2/6+4 and just about seen heartbeat and a miniscule shape then.

There really is no "set day" that you'll definitely be able to see something and it's potentially just more worrying to hear other experiences and then worry if yours is slightly different.
Early pregnancy is a worrying time with or without an early scan - not having one creates the worry of not knowing and having one creates worry of you don't see exactly what you want when you think you should.

In my experience, pregnancy as a whole is a worry - you're only really content at the moment a sonographer has the picture on the screen or the midwife has the Doppler on your tummy. After that it's just a waiting game til the next time you hear or see them.

It is possible to see a HB at 5+6, but not at all guaranteed. I had a scan at 5+6 with my twins (IVF pregnancy so dates were exact), and saw two lovely heartbeats. Both twins were measuring ahead by a few days though. Good luck!

I had an early scan at 5 + 4 in this pregnancy (previous ectopic) and they weren’t able to see anything but went back at exactly 6 weeks was completely visible. Things change so quickly in the early stages so might be able to see something at 5+6 but I would say don’t be alarmed if they can’t. Good luck!!!

Thank you all.

It is actually helpful hearing others' experience that it's possible not to hear anything at that stage, as I don't want to go in thinking I'll definitely get an answer and then not.

So it sounds like I should be prepared for it to be inconclusive again and to have some more waiting. Fingers crossed it will be fine but I like to be practical and prepared!

Hi @organised5, I had a scan with EPU due to recurrent miscarriages at 5+4 and we saw a teeny baby with a heartbeat.
